My preferred teaching method is The Guitarist's Way. This series of 4 books, covers musical notation and basic technique. It is approachable and can be used by students of any age and ability. After the second book pupils can move on to grades and different styles.

I have been receiving classical guitar lessons from Neil for 3 years now - recommended to me by a neighbour. Neil has been patient with me and given me freedom to develop my guitar playing skills at my pace. I knew a few basic chords but classical was completely new to me. Learning for fun, not exams, I have grown in skill in identifying chord patterns, noting when I have made mistakes and developed skills up the fretboard. I have been able to play a range of music styles and have grown in my ability to read music. Neil has a good ear for recognising when fingering is right or wrong
I have known Neil for fifteen years and I was given his number by a local music store; he taught my daughter from age seven and helped her pass all of her guitar grades by age twelve and then a Diploma after that. He always gives praise and encouragement and sets targets at the right level to match abilities while always moving forwards. His patient style works well for students of all levels. I am having my own lessons with him now and would highly recommend him.
Neil is very flexible with timings, and always wants to get the best out of his students. He adjusts to the speed of which you would like to progress at, and also focuses on accuracy and detail along the way. Neil also recommends the best techniques for the grading examinations as he knows how to get the best results.
Neil has been my guitar teacher for a number of years providing me with one to one tuition. He is a very patient and attentive teacher and has provided me with the skill and confidence to enjoy playing guitar and progressing at my own pace. I am looking to take grade 8 guitar later this year. I would have no hesitation in recommending him.
