My main intention is to help my student become not only a guitarist/bass player, but primarily a well rounded musician. I aim to teach a skill-set that will enable my student to work within the music industry enabling them to become any type of musician they wish.
My lessons focus mainly on technical development, contextualising theory, studying songs, grade examinations, understanding your instrument, ensemble development and any other suitable student requirements.
My lesson approach focuses on a passion for music. First and foremost music should be fun. This combined with a focused and personalised learning experience that brings out the best in you, is what I'm truly aiming for.
A typical lesson:
- Lesson begins - What music do you listen to? Artists? Bands? Musicians?
- Who do you aspire to play like?
- Is there a certain style that you want to develop or improve?
- Learning a song in your preferred style and then studying the theory behind it
- Learning or developing a technique
- Discussing a practice routine that benefits the student
- Lessons ends - Student leaves with material to work on at home
My name is Sonny Winslow. I am a 23 year old aspiring bass player and guitarist currently working within the Music Industry as a freelance musician and private tutor. I specialise in a wide range of genres - mainly Rock/Pop/Soul/Funk/R&B.
I studied at the Academy Of Contemporary Music, Guildford. I graduated with a 1st Class BMus (Hons) Degree in Professional Music Performance, specialising on bass guitar. I have performed with many great musicians, including Hamish Stuart (Average White Band), Tony O'Malley (10cc, Arrival, Kokomo), Alan Darby (Eric Clapton, Van Morrison, B.B. King), Nathan Moore (Brother Beyond) amongst many others.
I work regularly as a live, touring and studio musician. The wide range of artist's I have worked with and for demonstrates my versatility as a teacher and performer. I also write music, of which some has been recorded and released by myself and other artists.
Sonny is an extraordinary player of Jazz, Funk, Soul, Blues, Rock and Pop and brings this knowledge to his teaching. He is kind, patient and innovative and makes his lessons fun and interesting. He is a great motivator.
Sonny is a fantastic tutor. He is patient, inspiring and talented. I would definitely recommend Sonny.
