About the lesson
I keep lessons as practical, relaxed and straightforward as possible. By the end of every lesson, my students always have something fun and musical to practice until next time.
I often film short recap videos of what was covered during the lesson so the student has the perfect audio/visual reference. Sometimes, these will be "play-along" videos, where I might record a whole song for students to practice along to.

About Robbie
Hello! I’m Robbie, a professional guitar teacher and university music graduate. I graduated with a first class degree and was also the recipient of 2/4 of the prizes, including the prize for best recital. I have since become a full-time guitar teacher and performing musician.
I've been told by my students that I'm "super friendly", "really easy to understand", "a very funny guy" and "excellent at exaggerating quotes"…
I love playing the guitar and learning about music, and I think this carries over into my lessons. I have taught students of all ages and abilities and I also have experience in teaching students with disabilities. I'm able to teach in any style or genre, though I specialise in rock, pop & jazz. I tend to fill lessons with as much musicality as possible; we'll focus on whatever you enjoy playing!
I've been performing music for over 10 years now, in all sorts of different bands and groups: rock bands, funk bands, jazz ensembles, big bands, theatre pits – you name it! I currently run a wedding and function band in which I play 8-string hybrid guitar and sing (sounds a bit crazy, I know!) and travel around the UK. I also have a lot of experience with recording and mixing music, having done this a lot for band promotional material.
Also, feel free to check out my YouTube channel below for some more examples of my playing! And thanks for reading this far! :D

Perfect! Robbie is super friendly and has an encouraging manner when teaching. We got stuck in straight away with learning a song that I wanted to, which was great! Robbie is teaching me the basics, but in relation to the song, which I find far more fun than just learning things from a music book. I'm enjoying my lessons so far and looking forward to more in the future!
- Robbie's response : Emily is an excellent student! She’s a fantastic listener and a lovely person. Looking forward to future lessons Emily!

Perfect! My lessons so far with Robbie have been a real highlight of my week. For a complete beginner like myself, he makes concepts like music theory easy to understand, and is complimentary of even the most basic accomplishments. At this early stage of learning the guitar, Robbie's friendly nature and positive reinforcement is very helpful. However, that is not to say that Robbie is best suited to beginners. He clearly has a wealth of knowledge about his instrument of choice, and would be a good fit for players of all levels.
- Robbie's response : Zharif has been a pleasure to teach so far - he is a fantastic student and is clearly very motivated to learn guitar. Looking forward to our future lessons!
Perfect! Excellent tutor! Very friendly and talented. I'm an experienced bassist who's transitioning to guitar, Robbie quickly identified my strenghts and weaknesses and gave me great advice and exercises.
- Robbie's response : Adam is a fantastic student! He's an extremely accomplished bassist looking to learn to improve on guitar, and so far it's been excellent working on things like technique with him. Looking forward to our future lessons!
Perfect! Great teaching style. I was sceptical whether video learning would be as good as real life, but Robbie has me convinced. I'm learning fast and Robbie gives great feedback through the lessons.
- Robbie's response : Adam is a fantastic student and a thoroughly nice person! He listens carefully and considers everything we cover during the lesson - he makes teaching easy!
Perfect! I’ve had two great lessons with Robbie! He’s got a friendly approach to teaching guitar, taylors the sessions to match the student’s needs and interests. The sessions have been very clear and helpful - and fun!
- Robbie's response : Karoliina is a fantastic student and thoroughly lovely person! She is always so positive, patient & friendly and clearly practices often between our weekly lessons. I'd absolutely recommend her as a student! :D

Robbie is one of the most talented and reliable musicians I have ever met. He has a flair for giving easy-to-understand explanations while always aiming to uplift and work with the student in line with their needs. Collegiality is at the core of his interactions, which, I think, is crucial for being an effective tutor. I would wholeheartedly recommend him for musicians at any level trying to improve their craft.
Robbie is a brilliant teacher whose motivation to share his extensive knowledge of the guitar and its place in music has been a source of real inspiration for me as a student.
I've found his approach to lessons to be creative, methodical and thoroughly enjoyable, a combination of factors which has really allowed me to progress to a level that I wasn't able to attain with past teachers.
Robbie is one of the nicest people you'll meet and is very passionate about the guitar. I like learning about a range of musical styles and I've found him to be comfortable teaching in any genre. He's obviously a phenomenal guitar player, yet he effortlessly breaks down complicated ideas to their basic, digestible components, and that has really helped me focus and maintain steady progress throughout my guitar-learning journey.
Overall, I really rate Robbie very highly as a teacher and an all-round genuinely lovely person, and I can't recommend him enough.Robbie is not only a master of guitar and music in general, but also has a natural talent for teaching these skills to others.
Having known him for 8 years as a fellow musician and tutor, I can confidently say that he is reliable, trustworthy and capable of delivering excellent tutoring sessions.I got Robbie's number the old fashioned way, : it was on a noticeboard in a shop. Robbie is patient and very consistent in his calmness. My ability is somewhat basic and he was able to come down to basic level and get the ideas across to me. He re-stated what he had shown me by sending me e-mails with video files attatched -plenty of stuff to work on. That, to me, showed generosity. Can I recommend him? Oh yes! I am 58 and Robbie is not yet 30 but I found him wise beyond his years, so to anyone who is an older learner I very much recommend him.
Robbie is a great teacher, he goes at whatever pace you like and is very helpful as he sends diagrams of what we've learned and notes after the lessons. Really recommend him.

Find out more about Robbie
01
When did you first develop a passion for music and your favourite instrument?
My first instrument was actually drums, but when I was about 13 I bought and watched the "Red Hot Chili Peppers - Live at Slane Castle" DVD, and seeing John Frusciante's incredible guitar solos made me decide to seriously learn the guitar. I'm still blown away by that concert!
02
Is there a particular type music or artist that you listen to on a loop without it driving you crazy?
At the moment I'm looping a lot of James Taylor's live albums. Though I'm always on the lookout for new and interesting music - I try not to listen to one thing too much!
03
Explain to us the most difficult or riveting course you could personally give to a student of music
Trying to learn a whole song or album by ear, probably. It's very challenging at first, but it's the best way to get to grips with the language of music.
04
What do you think is the most complicated instrument to master and why?
I have a lot of respect for singers, as you can't see much of the inner workings of their technique (unlike, say piano or guitar). Also, I think playing organ must be incredibly difficult as they simultaneously play pedals with their feet!
05
What are your keys to success?
To not be in pursuit of "success"! Learning an instrument is about enjoying the process.
06
Name three musicians you dream of meeting in your favourite bar in the early hours of the morning. Explain why.
They say that you should never meet your heroes... but since that's a boring answer: Charlie Hunter, Steven Wilson & Kurt Elling. Because I love their music and think they'd be easy to talk to!
07
Provide a valuable anecdote related to music or your days at music school.
Play what you enjoy. There's no better motivation to practice!
08
What are the little touches that make you a Superprof in music?
After every lesson, I film a short recap video of what was covered, so the student has the perfect audio/visual reference. Sometimes, these will be "play-along" videos, where I might record a whole song for students to practice along to.
