I tailor my one-to-one sessions to the advantages of the individual student, using auditory, visual, and kinaesthetic techniques, and enjoy implementing creative teaching methods into my practice. Students are led through factual content, and are then invited to express their own opinions on the topics discussed in order to aid their understanding, with careful consideration given to how they should structure their answers in writing.
I have seven years of teaching experience in comprehensive secondary schools in the United Kingdom, teaching primarily History to years 7-13. I have tutored students individually and run small-group revision sessions during that entire time. I currently work full time at a high-achieving comprehensive boys school in Hertfordshire, teaching History and Religious Education to GCSE level, and History through A-level. I own a BA and MA in History and a PGCE in Secondary History teaching.
As a practitioner, I specifically specialise in creating learning opportunities for adolescents who enjoy physically active lessons that invite discussion and reflection. I relate academic content to the interests and contexts of student's lives, and help them draw parallels between what is most relevant to them, and the situation and/or challenge they are confronting in their work. This allows for a greater understanding of the historical concepts of cause and consequence, change and continuity, and chronology, and subsequently makes it possible for the student to convey such understanding far more ably and clearly on paper, as required by exams.
