I have experience of working with people from various cultures, social and ethnic backgrounds. My education and love for the Russian language and literature have provided me with the knowledge needed to teach the subject to an advanced level. I have a passion for helping people to improve their written and spoken Russian. I have experience of working, teaching and sharing my knowledge across a broad age range.
All tutorials can be tailored to the student’s needs; we can focus on any specific areas you wish to improve, i.e. Speaking, Grammar, Writing, Reading. In case if you are interested in Creative Writing development, I will work closely with you to help you to improve your creative piece of work. I specialise in fiction and non-fiction (I don’t do poetry, children & teen literature, genre literature).
I was born and raised in Moscow, where I graduated with an MA from the Maxim Gorky Literature Institute, specialising in Creative Writing and Russian Literature. I am a native Russian speaker and a proficient user of English.
Having lived in New Zealand for four years, Hong Kong and France for six months, I moved with my husband and children to the UK in 2012. As a freelance writer, I have continued to write for several local media organisations. At present, I am doing a creative PhD research project within the Department of Film and Creative Writing at the University of Birmingham (UK). Additionally, I work with upcoming authors helping them to find their voice and to develop their creative work.
I have two years of experience working as a Russian Teacher Assistant at private UK school (GCSE/A-level), teaching the following modules: Russian, Russian literature and cinematography. I developed new teaching resources for Russian literature, movies and Modern Russia studies, which now are used at school. I supervised A-level pupils’ independent research projects and creative essays. Two of my pupils are currently holding an offer from the University of Cambridge (one of them planning to take an undergraduate course in Russian & Arabic; another is going to specialise in science and continue learning Russian as a foreign language), another pupil passed GCSE Russian with 100%.
I would love to share with you/your child my passion for Russian, Creative Writing or English as a Foreign Language, add value and enrich the learning experience.
Cancellation of a lesson must be made AT LEAST 24 hours before the scheduled lesson time.
In case if you wish to have a face-to-face lesson, I will be able to meet at the Library of Birmingham or on the campus of the University of Birmingham.
Olga is a great tutor. My partner has had a few speaking lessons with Olga and found them very useful. Olga is amiable and respectful, she explains everything very well. She has a real passion for the Russian language and culture, always willing to share her knowledge. If you after some speaking practice or want to understand Russian grammar/culture/ literature, I will undoubtedly recommend having lessons with Olga.
Olga has tutored my daughter to a 100% pass at GCSE. I can’t speak highly enough about her ability and competence to both engage with my daughter and to motivate her to absorb, what I had feared, would prove to be an extremely difficult language. Simply brilliant.
