I love the experience of making music and the joy it brings to people. No two pupils are the same which is part of the love of teaching for me. I get a lot of satisfaction if I can help pupils to achieve whatever it is they want to achieve; whether it is a small ambition such as playing Happy Birthday in a primary school assembly or a larger one like passing their music exams. Lessons progress at the level of each particular student as everyone is different and learns at a different rate. Some pupils begin to learn at a slower speed but as their confidence increases so does their ability to learn new techniques and pieces. Some pieces are recorded during lessons so we can hear what may need working on and also what has worked well. We clap rhythms before playing pieces so there is rhythmic confidence before a piece is learned. Sight reading is very beneficial as well and this is a regular part of lessons. If a student can play a something well with no preparation beforehand there is no reason why a piece which has to be learnt cannot be absolutely fantastic with repeated practice. I have a PVG certificate as well.
I began learning music by learning the recorder at a young age. From there I progressed onto clarinet and then onto saxophone and piano. I have played instruments for over 35 years and have taken ABRSM exams and have achieved a Music and Education Studies degree.
I have taught for over 20 years. The ages of my pupils have varied from 4 to a one gentleman in his 80s so age is not a barrier by any means! Many of my pupils have taken and passed music exams which are accomplishments well worth having. Some of my pupils have learnt for fun which is absolutely fine as well. Some people want to be able to a particular piece while others want to have a deep understanding of music. I can help you achieve whatever you want to achieve with your music.
I am the musical director for a local theatre company as well which I enjoy immensely.
Perfect! Ellen was great.. I felt highly motivated by the lesson. She has a very happy, relaxed, encouraging and motivational approach and I feel I am going to make great progress and enjoy learning with her.
Graham is an absolute gentleman and he has a good working knowledge of music. We are going to work on getting his music reading more comnfident.
Ellen is a down to earth music teacher with patience in abundance, putting me at ease from my very first lesson.
I was 70 years old when she started teaching me to play the piano and I found her style and method of teaching suited me perfectly. Her’ easy to talk to’ manner allowed me to ask her to explain anything I didn't understand the first time around, and she would explain it in a different way until I got it!
I enjoyed my lessons with Ellen. I would highly recommend her, and I do believe my loss is Scotland’s gain!
Ellen is a very knowledgeable and talented pianist and her tuition style is calm, relaxed and friendly. She makes an excellent tutor for all age groups.
