« Perfect! Pete tutored my daughter for her History A-level and not only helped her with her academic studies but also to develop her confidence and belief in her ability. He was incredibly patient and challenged her to push herself. My daughter is bright but struggles with timing and getting her work completed in exam situations but Pete guided her and provided a structure to help her deliver her work in a much more timely way and helped her to focus on getting her thoughts down on paper. They developed a very strong working relationship, which made the history sessions even more interesting for her as some of them focused on discussions and debate around the subject as well as essay writing. I highly recommend Pete to anyone who needs a personable, calm, supportive, professional and knowledgeable tutor as Pete is all of those. My daughter really enjoyed working with him and benefited from his knowledge and support. »

Experienced, professional and enthusiastic history and psychology teacher! Qualifications include PGCE and First-Class Honours BA. Based near Richmond and covering a wide area of London.

Methodology

I am very proud to be able to say that I have had significant success in improving the grades of my students at both GCSE and A-level as well as laying some solid groundwork for students at KS3. My particular strengths as a teacher include an awareness of how best to help individual students form a deep and personal understanding of the themes that are studied in the history and psychology curricula in ways that relate to their interests and understanding. Another strength lies in my commitment to improving literacy levels amongst my students, something crucial to their ability to succeed, through deepening my students’ understanding of the meaning of particular words (both subject specific words and in broader vocabulary). Modelling correct exam practise answers with a consciousness of these factors is another great strength and I look forward to helping my students to achieve the best possible results.

Experience

I am an energetic and passionate history and psychology teacher with a PGCE gained from the prestigious Institute of Education (UCL). I have an extensive knowledge of my specialist subjects. I was awarded a first-class honours degree in history. I have worked in several secondary schools and have at various times taught all of KS3, KS4 with familiarity with both GCSE and A-level work to a very high standard.

HOBBIES AND INTERESTS

I have a keen interest in music and though it is no longer my chosen career – I still enjoy writing and performing music on occasion. I play a number of instruments including violin, guitar and piano. I have recently helped compose a soundtrack score to a short film made by Vice Magazine. I love to attend gigs and other music-related performances. Frequently I attend music and film events at the Barbican Centre, which I am a member of. Antiques are also an interest of mine and I frequently go to antiques fairs across the country such as the ones held at Kempton and Ardingly. I have found that both music and antiques often overlap with my interest in history and both have fed into my thinking and planning around the subject. I would be happy to bring both music and objects into lessons whenever the opportunity presents itself (whenever it relates to something which the students are currently studying). I also love cycling through the local parks, this is something which I do with my two-year-old son.
