I teach mainly individuals but am also run group activity-based lessons and this is something I intend to do more of in the future.
My main teaching method consists of first of all getting the basics right and guiding them through that with lots of demonstrating. I then use a method called the 'Suzuki' approach which emphasises using one's ears and memory to produce sound. However I also use it for students' note-reading as I like to pursue that as soon as possible in their development. I then do all the grades 1-8+, as well as encouraging a couple of 'fun pieces' alongside this to create variety and build their repertoire. I try to put on a concert once a year to showcase their talents and improvements, as well as providing them the opportunity to make friends with fellow musicians in the local area.
I also spend time discussing practice techniques, how to structure practice properly and a good practice routine. I am a meticulous teacher but we also have a lot of fun and laughter along the way, and I think getting this balance right is key for their development!
I studied Music as a join first Music Scholar at Purcell Music School and Guildhall Music College, and have been setting up my own teaching business more recently and continuing with solo performances too. My aim is to pass all my years of studying and knowledge onto my students, inspiring them and igniting a strong passion for music, similar to my own!
