My teaching methodology is - quite simply put - individual to the tutees needs. There is no one method that works for every child - but my teaching qualification and experience of pedagogy allows me to have a "tool kit" of methods, including bar modelling, visual representations and physical materials to help break down barriers to learning and allow students to access content.
It is all about knowing the gaps in a child's knowledge and exploring these misconceptions and various ways to overcome these.
I have a Mathematics BSc from Birkbeck University, but this does not necessarily make someone a great teacher! I have also got a PCGE in Mathematics education and have been teaching years 7-11 mathematics for 4 years. I am consistently good to outstanding in observations and as a result am now one of the leaders in our maths department, meaning my practice is observed by others to enhance their own.
Tutoring is a new venture for me and will enable me to work in an environment where I can tailor all of these specific skills to really accelerate the progress of the tutee.
Perfect! Claire is proving to be really reliable and is helping my son. She always sends an update after each session and additional practice homework for my son to do in between sessions. I think the tutoring is going to have a really positive impact, I think we have had 4 sessions so far. I would highly recommend Claire.
It was really quite clear that both parent and child were on board with this idea - they were both really welcoming, Alex had very clear indications of his strengths and weaknesses and was keen to rectify them. Algebra was definitely a weak spot but we are working on that every lessons and he is making progress.
