My approach to learning would be based around self discovery (student led learning with teacher support) and mastery (development of a skill before moving on). I also prioritise repetitive interleaved learning to embed knowledge from working memory to long term memory.
Having been teaching since 2013, I have a wealth of experience teaching KS4, KS4 and KS4 English Literature and Language. I have also marked at GCSE level for AQA for the past 3 years. I have passions for literacy and oracy.
My students and my subject are at the heart of everything I do: I believe in the fundamentality of subject English to enable each and every young person in my classroom to succeed not only academically but also universally within the modern world. My passion and enthusiasm for the English language and the power it can afford every individual to achieve have prompted me at all stages of my career path as well as being the bedrock for my fundamental principles and priorities within the classroom. At all times I attempt to promote high levels of literacy amongst my students; I also aim to be a role model in mannerisms, speech and behaviour for all with whom I come into contact. Increasingly, however, I have also become much more aware of the role educators play in providing missing cultural capital and general knowledge to those with gaps. I believe the English curriculum provides a distinct opportunity like no other subject to level the playing field for those amongst the most disadvantaged areas of the country in order to enable succeed and progress. As both a teacher and as a mentor, I believe my strengths lie in my patience, organisation, approachability, resourcefulness and versatility. I feel confident in my ability to question students and those new to the teaching profession in order to create a safe for them to explore their ideas and feelings, thereby also requiring me to have excellent listening skills. Having had experience working with less experienced colleagues in a whole school and departmental capacity, I am looking for a role where I am able to apply both my ethos and passion to benefit more students on a wider scale as well as the profession in a particular difficult political climate.
Perfect! Rachael is an inspiring and dedicated tutor and my son is really enjoying having lessons for GCSE English. I highly recommend her. Many thanks.
Very hard working student who talked through ideas at length. We need to work on getting all that great thinking to paper.
Perfect! My kid says "Rachael is a fantastic teacher. Before the lesson she sets it up and gives feedback from the previous lesson. Her lessons are fun and easy to understand." I strongly recommend Rachael for your English tutor.
I am currently tutoring Jiyoun's son and her daughter. Both are very determined and focused students who read for implicit information very well. Both are working on ensuring all ideas are described in depth in writing.
Perfect! Rachael is an excellent teacher. She is calm, patient and always plan her lesson very well. It is always such a pleasure to have a lesson with her. For each lesson, she prepares a Powerpoint and send it to you before the lesson. Rachael always tailors her approach according to my needs and goals. She is also flexible and very responsive: she always answers my questions very quickly. For all these reasons, I highly recommand Rachael! She is BRILLIANT!
A very interesting student to talk to who takes feedback very well.
Perfect! Very organised, helpful and skilled tutor. Happy to recommend to others.
Extending her answers using evidence from the text. Providing more than one reason for her answer. Avoiding repetition in her responses.
Rachael is a fantastic tutor!!!
Rachaels tutored with us for 2 years. She does English and Maths for each of my little rascals 8, 13 and 16 and they love learning with her. She's managed not only to improve their grades, but also their self-confidence. What would we do without her!
Rachael is patient, professional and trustworthy, would never look anywhere else!! Xx
I have known Rachael for many years. She is an excellent teacher with extensive knowledge, not just of English language and English literature, but also of teaching methods. She is a very patient person who doesn't give up on her students and engages with them on their level. Rachael has a very bright and bubbly personality which spreads positivity to those around her.
