I care deeply about teaching and learning in general and the teaching of mathematics is a particular passion for me. I help students gain confidence in their own mathematical ability when they have been convinced by the academic system that they are incapable of doing well in the subject. I can also help higher attaining students to challenge themselves and aspire to become even better.
My first session is provided free of charge and I use this session to understand the needs of prospective pupils. At the end of the session, I have a frank and honest discussion with the pupil and/or their guardians. I use these conversations to listen to the concerns of the pupils and/or their guardians and present an outline of my assessment of the student's areas of strengths and weaknesses. I also suggest a course of action to help the pupil move forward.
During the last two decades I have worked with many hundreds of students and have read research studies from academics around the world on the subject of attainment in mathematics. My own experience is in keeping with all the studies I have read about this topic. The overwhelming majority of students can do well in mathematics provided they have the confidence, the techniques and willingness to work hard. Even after only six to eight weeks of tuition, all the students I have tutored have improved by at least one grade or one level.
I tell all prospective pupils there is no magic bullet or shortcut. To achieve success in mathematics a few things are key: understanding the concept well; understanding when and how to apply it in different situations; lots of practice in applying it in different scenarios and short, regular revision sessions. So my only pre-conditions before I agree to work with any student are: a positive attitude; a commitment to put in the time and effort required to bring about the improvement in their grades; and at least one ninety minute session every week.
It is important to me that students should enjoy mathematics and look forward to their sessions with me. To ensure this I use a variety of different resources to explain concepts to students and am a firm believer in using physical and computer based study tools and aides to complement the standard oral and written tools used to teach mathematics. I also believe in linking the mathematics that we study to the real world to increase students' engagement with the topic and their understanding of its relevance. I am very patient and empathetic to my student's needs and once they develop in confidence I encourage all my students to challenge themselves regularly.
I am an experienced secondary school mathematics teacher with Qualified Teacher Status (QTS). I have experience teaching the new Maths syllabus for OCR, AQA and Edexcel for GCSE and IGCSE and 'A' Levels exams.
I have completed a BSc in Accounting, a Masters in Education, an ACCA qualification and a PGCE course. I have been providing tuition in mathematics for over 25 years and have worked as a secondary school Mathematics Teacher for over 12 years. I have experience teaching to individual students, to small groups and to classes of up to 35 students. I have helped four year old pupils take their first steps in arithmetic and forty plus year old students understand how algebra works. I also work as an examiner for Edexcel and am therefore very familiar with how exams are marked.
My standard rate is £35 per hour for a single student upto Year 11 and £45 per hour for Year 12 and 13.

Farooq was my daughters maths tutor in her secondary school for a few years and she really connected with him. Under his tutelage she went from seriously disliking maths to really enjoying maths. When he left her secondary school I employed him as a 1:1 tutor to support her through her GCSE year. She achieved a fantastic grade (which we never would have expected previously). I 100% believe this was due to Farooqs teaching and support. I fully recommend.
I was Mr Farooq’s student for a couple of month and I couldn’t find any one better than him. He was kind and understanding. But also explained to me all the topics that I didn’t understand. Mr Farooq helped me get from a grade 3 to a grade 7 in maths and I was very happy. He is a tutor that will believe in you. And won’t give up on you. I definitely recommend him u won’t regret it at all. Thank you Mr Farooq for everything.
Farooq has been tutoring my daughters for the last few years with excellent results! They are now in the top sets in their class and my eldest is acing her mock SATS and 11+ papers. My girls generally shy away from home work and studies. Farooq, makes learning engaging and fun so much so that my daughters actually look forward to their sessions with him. I would highly recommend Farooq!
Farouk is a very dedicated, highly competent maths teacher. I would strongly recommend him for your child.
We found Farouk when my son, Will was preparing for the 13 plus entrance exam. I was in a panicked situation as Will was getting around 45% in maths when it was only a few months away from the exam.
After the first meeting with Farouk, I immediately felt very assured that my son was in good hands. My son also gained confidence very quickly and he was very comfortable with his teaching style. Throughout his middle school period, I kept Farouk to tutor Will and he has maintained as a top maths student and received grade 9 in this year’s GCSE result.
Farooq was my daughters Maths Tutor for about one year. He taught her in our house for 1 hour 45 minutes once a week. As it got nearer to GCSE exams he Tutored her twice a week. He was professional, always on time, very flexible and inspiring.
He structured the lesson to get the best use of time. He regularly assessed my daughters progress and provided appropriate homework to get her to keep developing her skills.
My daughter did very well in her GCSE exams. I would recommend him to anyone who wants a dedicated and professional Tutor.
Mr Farooq Ahmed tutored my son when we came for summer vacations to UK from Qatar. He came recommended to us from other Qatari families who had visited UK and had children either preparing or resitting for Cambridge or Edexcel examinations.
My son's was very uncertain initially, but with in 1 session, he was quite certain he wanted to continue with Mr. Farooq. He spent almost an entire summer with him, going through IGCSE Mathematics. My son secured an A* after Mr. Farooq' s help, when he was previously on about a C.
We are very grateful for Mr. Farooqs help and dedication. My son couldn't have done it without him.
