I adhere to a creative and personalised approach to the teaching of the National Curriculum, providing opportunities for: different learning styles, the use of the creative arts within all subject areas and where possible topic based teaching. . This has the lead to the children within my care developing a love for learning and an understanding of how to excel in the world beyond the classroom. I use accelerated learning and personalised learning practices and procedures on a daily basis, which has lead to every child I have taught so far in my career making at least good progress.
I feel that one of my key strengths is fostering positive and trusting relationships with children that last beyond their time in my class. It is essential for effective teaching and learning to take place; it motivates them to grow academically, emotionally and spiritually, giving them every opportunity to succeed and reach their full potential in all aspects of life. I carefully plan my lessons so that they cater for all learning styles and also match my interests and those of the children in my class. I strive to ensure all children within my care make the necessary progress and have run a great number of before and after school booster sessions for pupils who are in danger of not meeting their targets. Each year, I build and maintain strong relationships with parents/guardians and use their skills and abilities to enhance the educational journey of their children through: target setting, homework, workshops and emotional literacy. I operate flexible teaching groups (ability, peer and social) to ensure that pupils have the opportunity to work with all class members and be influenced by positive role models. I create ‘focus groups’ (based upon the analysis of daily and summative assessments) to: support pupils whose progress is slower than their peers, assist children with special educational needs and stretch gifted and talented children. The work carried out with these pupils is planned with the teaching assistant delivering the work and the children involved: leading to shared ownership.
I pride myself on running a happy, calm, well-organised classroom where every child is valued as an ambitious, motivated individual. I have high standards and pride myself in always putting maximum effort into everything I do. I aim to instill this ethos into the minds of the children; they are always told what is expected of them and they are encouraged to always do their best and be proud of their achievements. I thoroughly enjoy the creative side of teaching and always provide my children with a well managed and stimulating environment in which to work. The excellent standards of my class teaching were recognised by Ofsted: children within my class were said to make ‘accelerated progress’.
Currently, I am in my seventeenth year of teaching during which time I have taught pupils from ages 4 to 11. I am a motivated teacher who is open to new ideas and strategies. I strive to ensure the best possible practices are utilised in my classroom and subject responsibility areas to ensure optimum progression: the results I achieved with the Year 6 classes I taught placing them in the top 5% in the country. Additionally, for the past four years I have been a senior SAT marker so I can provide lots of advice and expertise on the contents of tests and also test technique.
In addition to the training I have received on current educational practice, I have undertaken the NCSL`s Leading from the Middle course. I thoroughly enjoyed all aspects of this course including the challenge of the online activities and training days. Leading from the Middle has genuinely invigorated me with the desire to become a better educator and to make more of a difference: to take on more responsibility and to try new things. It has given me more confidence and belief in my own abilities. I cannot undervalue the impact this course has made on my outlook of leadership in education, and have already begun to use some of the approaches that I have learnt to make a difference in my own practice. I found the experience very encouraging and informative; it is challenging me to change the way I dealt with people and become a more reflective teacher and manager
