About the lesson

I keep my subject knowledge of the primary curriculum up to date and am experienced in planning and delivering lessons to inspire, motivate and engage learners. My teaching approach involves engaging learners with the learning process through meaningful tasks and activities. I take a creative and child centred approach to learning where I start with where my pupils are at so as to develop their confidence and self-esteem. I know that it is important for children believe in themselves as learners to enable them to succeed academically and in so many other areas of life too.
A typical tutoring session lasts one hour. In the first session, I do some learning activities to see how my pupil approaches learning and to talk to them about what they find easy about learning and what is tricky. I encourage my learners to tell me how they find different learning approaches and learning strategies as it is important for them to discover what works for them as this will help to build their confidence, knowledge and skills. I know that it is important for children to know how best they learn and to have a ‘learning toolkit’. We always discuss mistakes and rather than seeing them as failure, we talk about them as being a natural part of the learning process and also because some of our best learning can come from them.

I provide parents with written feedback after each session and home learning activities where appropriate.

I work from home in Christchurch in a dedicated teaching space where I have all the resources I need to teach your child.

Please contact me with any questions or to discuss how I can best support your child.

About Tara

During my 12+ years teaching career, I have worked in a various school settings and have enjoyed working with pupils and making a difference. I love teaching children and seeing that light-bulb moment when pupils grasp something that they have found challenging or something new. It is a privilege to work with children and help them to reach their potential.

I have worked in both KS1 and KS2 and so am experienced in all year groups throughout the primary phase. My most recent role was that of SENCo at a local primary school where I led on special educational needs across the school, using my experience as a teacher and a tutor to support teaching staff, pupils and families within the school community. I have been tutoring children in my local area since 2014 and am experienced in working with pupils of all abilities including those who have dyslexia or other special educational needs.
