I find 1-1 easiest and most effective. My method would be finding out where the student is first, then building upon that with various techniques, inc Q&A, discussion, reading, independent work, writing, watching. Connecting with the student at a non-academic level is often important. Show you care. The more I think, and the less I talk, the more the student usually learns. I watch faces to gauge if real understanding has taken place. Has there penny dropped, so to speak.
