I make sure to assess each young person's needs individually, to find out how I can best work with them to help THEM achieve the results they deserve. I think it is important that students are allowed to discover their strengths as well as their weaknesses, and be inspired to work hard to improve at both. Being both an actor and theatre facilitator as well as a tutor allows me to tailor my teaching to inspire confidence in my students and support their school work with more detailed one-to-one time.
I am a professional actor with an English Literature degree from the University of York and Acting Masters from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, with six years of teaching experience. I cover the broad range of work that the curriculum entails, from KS1 right through to GCSE, as well as being able to adapt my teaching for specific schools' admission requirements. I have helped to prepare students for entrance into some of the best schools in London, as well as offering bespoke guidance and support for children who just need a boost of confidence, and high-achievers who need some new challenges.
I am happy to travel outside of Zone 4 in London, but will require a minimum (dependent on location) of £5/hour extra for travel expenses.
I am an actor and English Literature graduate, with six years of teaching experience. I also have A Levels in Maths and Geography, and have taught a variety of subjects at primary education level.
I am also a theatre facilitator with young people and adults, making me an excellent communicator and able to identify the needs and strengths of individuals. This allows me to tailor my teaching to inspire confidence in my students, and find the best way to help each child individually.

I work with young people in detailed and extensive exam preparation for the school-specific and ISEB entrance and setting exams. I cover English, Maths, Verbal and Non-Verbal reasoning across all levels, and have experience of tutoring young people of all academic abilities. I teach key skills and a foundation for further learning with KS2 children, and work on expanding understanding, and utilising these skills with the older students. I identify gaps in learning, where something may be misunderstood or simply missed or forgotten by a student. My primary focus is clarity and confidence. I have prepared young people for entry into some of the best schools in London, including Eton, KCS, St Paul’s, Westminster, LEH, GDST and London 11+ Consortium schools.
I thoroughly enjoy teaching English Literature and Language at GCSE. It gives me the chance to try to instil in my students a passion for the subject that is so difficult to grasp when faced with the pressure of the exams. I understand that at this level in their education, young people have such a huge amount of work to get through and information to retain, not least with the English curriculums. I work on unlocking the texts in a way that might be unique for each individual student, underlining the importance of essay planning and exam practice, and try to help them find their own thought-provoking insight into the themes and messages of the set texts.
I also have experience of tutoring young people throughout the academic year and in their holidays for the purpose of simply providing extra support and a helpful, safe space to get on with continuing school work and other activities. This includes working with students for whom English is a second language, those who may need extra teaching on a one-to-one level because they are not yet achieving their full potential, and high achieving students that can be challenged in new and different ways. I work with young people on interview preparation, practicing presentations or other extra-curricular preparation including drama and debating.

Fran, we are immensely grateful to you for your excellent work with our daughter (12 years old, 13+ entry British school).
Your lessons were perfectly tailored to her needs, aiming to bridge the academic gaps she may have, but always highly interesting, creative and motivating.
Our daughter has made an enormous progress in the short amount of time and she succeeded to get a place in the very good independent school in London. We are absolutely happy, thank you!
I can highly recommend Francesca as a tutor, she is professional, patient, and my kids always look forward to their sessions with her. She is supporting my son through his English GCSE which he is now enjoying, to the point that he is considering it at A Level - which wasn't on the cards before. My youngest got into two of their secondary choices with Fran's help. Thank you!
Francesca worked tirelessly with my son, and was very focused on finding the right way of learning from him. She spent time working out where the gaps were in his knowledge, whilst always pushing him a little harder where he worked well. She kept me in the loop on what they were covering, and really the most important thing was boosting his confidence for entrance exams and in school generally. I've told her I'm already lining her up for my youngest two children!
