My approach varies depending on the student’s needs and learning style. However I encourage students to think for themselves, making use of practical examples where possible. I start from topics the students are comfortable with and as their confidence builds, I move gradually towards more complex areas using questions and examples to check understanding continually. I don’t lecture to students or ask them to memorise things (unless using acronyms). Nor do I do the students’ homework for them in order to produce genuine confidence for tests and exams.
