I am a tutor of Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics and Engineering. I cater for anyone from Primary School aged up to and including A levels. In my lessons I utilise humour to help the student feel relaxed and comfortable and through the Pause Procedure I encourage and foster an ability to learn independently.
I have experience working as an observer and assistant in classrooms for at both Secondary and Primary Schools. I also have extensive experience as working with primary school aged children as a youth leader. I am new tutoring and none of my students have yet finished the course.
Imperial College London – Chemical Engineering PhD October 2016 – Present
As a PhD student I am required to have a deep understanding of the fundamental principles and relationships within Engineering, and to such an extent that I am able to apply them in the new and unique applications of my research. This is focused on a novel process aimed at increasing the economic viability of bio-fuels derived from woody crops.
Another crucial role of a PhD student is that of a Graduate Teaching Assistant (GTA), whereby I utilise my knowledge and experience acquired from my Masters in Chemical Engineering to help undergraduate students through their own studies.
Imperial College London – Chemical Engineering, Meng October 2012 – June 2016
Grade: Upper Second Classification
Completing a Master’s degree in Chemical Engineering has allowed me to build an excellent depth of knowledge and understanding within Engineering and its principled components of Mathematics, Chemistry and Physics.
Mathematics – Maths forms the foundations of Chemical Engineering and as such my studies at university have solidified and expanded my comprehension in this area, particularly the topics of Mechanics and Statistics. I achieved a high First (80%) in the second year Mathematics module thanks in large part to my competence on the Statistics section of the course.
Chemistry – In order to be a Chemical Engineer one is required to understand how the chemicals within the process behave with respect to the process conditions and how they interact with one another. My work – both my Masters and my PhD - has been heavily focused on Organic Chemistry.
Physics – Managing the flow of energy, and the interpretation of operational aspects on a fundamental atomic level, are critical concepts when undertaking a rigorous design of a chemical process.

Working alongside teachers in a Comprehensive Secondary School I gained insight into both the planning and execution of teaching methods, as well as hands-on experience assisting the students in the lesson. I also worked on student assessment attaining an appreciation for the importance of maintaining an open dialogue in order to promote independent learning.
Children’s Club, Lancashire (Youth Leader) February 2010 – Present
Responsibilities included Organising and Supervising Games/Activities, pastoral care and disciplinary matters. Working as part of a team of 5-6 people I was responsible for 20-30 children aged from 5-11 years old, an experience that has taught me the skill of utilizing strong characters in a group, as well as the crucial aspects to working as part of a team. Being subject to a restless audience that doesn’t hold back on its criticism put my communication skills to the test and strengthened them as a result.
