Discrete study of the the Western Classical Tradition is often sidelined in schools to engage the majority of students, but can hinder the progress of classical instrumentalists for whom this study will become increasingly important in FE and HE education.
Theory tuition: it is a requirement for students taking instrumental exams from Grade 6 and up to have passed Grade 5 Theory. For those studying through Trinity or another grade syllabus, this is not a requirement, however my experience as a classroom teacher is that theory comprehension is essential for successful study of the syllabus at A Level or equivalent.
For instrumentalists: specialising in music of the Western Classical Tradition from 1600, I will enrich your study of your instrument and repertoire through the prevailing musical climate in which it was written.
For instrumentalists and non-instrumentalists: I can teach you how to recognise music of the different eras in music history and to articulate this using music-specific terminology and to place music in context to the time and place in which it was written.

I am a married mum of two, who works from home as a private music tutor. I am passionate about Western Classical Music having studied it as a pianist, cellist, singer and as the daughter of a church organist. I have played in the WPO for over 20 years and perform as a cellist in and around the West Sussex area at weddings, musicals and other concerts. I enjoy travel, languages and reading.
I've known Elizabeth for over a year (she was covering for few months, teaching A-Level Music at HSDC, last year). Our students got great results thanks to her input and contribution. Fantastic professionalist. Thoroughly recommended.
Elizabeth comes with a wealth of knowledge from music lessons on individual instrumental and also national curriculum. She has experience working on a 121 basis as well as groups and classroom. Her experience in schools range from preschool - A Level. I have worked alongside Elizabeth for many years now and could not reccomend anyone more inspirational, passionate and knowledgable in her field.
Elizabeth is a fantastic tutor, very friendly and helpful, with excellent subject knowledge. She is a great motivator, praising her pupils, showing them where and how they can improve on their skills and knowledge.
"I like Elizabeth because she let's you adjust to the pieces and techniques and she understands that it takes a while to improve and encourages and motivates me" V 10 years.
Elizabeth has been teaching my daughter for a number of years now. She is very friendly and welcoming, ensuring that each individual gets the most out the lesson. She is a patient tutor who uses a number of different techniques to motivate and encourage her students. My daughter loves going to her weekly lessons.
