I give private lessons to students of all ages, across a wide range of areas in music. I teach popular and jazz music theory up to post-grade 8 level, bass guitar up to a grade 8 level, and piano and guitar to a grade 5 level. Whilst I always have something prepared for the first class, my teaching is very versatile and is uniquely catered to the interests and abilities of the student. I have strong skills in transcribing (working out music by ear) and am able to cater to student's queries on the spot
I am a final year film music student at Leeds College of Music, with a wide range of both tutoring and practical experience. I have been teaching privately since 2015, and have successfully put students through their grades 1-5, teaching theory and composition for GCSE Music and also piano and guitar to ages from 9-50+. I also have experience in musical direction, such as for a wind band based in Normanton.
I ask for 48 hours notice on cancellations where possible. If there are important reasons for late-notice cancellations then that is perfectly acceptable and the lesson can be rescheduled, but consistent cancellations will result in either billing for cancelled classes, or dropping of the classes. The most important rule is to practice!
In June 2013, I achieved both A* in GCSE Music, and Distinction* in BTEC Music, and was awarded Student of the Year in Music. In August 2016, I completed my Extended Diploma in Jazz at Leeds College of Music with D*D*D*, and also achieved a mark of 99% in a grade 8 music theory exam after I had taught myself the exam material. In recognition of both my consistent full marks throughout the Extended Diploma, and my theory results, I was awarded The Jamie Glover Memorial Prize by the college. I am currently at the end of my senior year studying Film Music BA (Hons) at LCoM, and I am continuing to develop a book on advanced music theory concepts that I begun writing in May 2017 alongside my studies. I am the musical director of a wind band, as well as being the pianist for an amateur pantomime society, and the organist for two churches, and have been teaching privately since September 2013.
