During my time working for the University of Bristol I have engaged with Mentoring young people of different levels. My teaching/mentoring method is highly tailored to the student. I strongly believe that all students learn differently, and the way we learn the best is by enjoying our topic more than anything. Whether it is creating visual aids like posters and cue cards, learning through tactile methods like physically rearranging sentences with cut-outs, or through repetition and adaptation - I am as versatile a mentor as students are learners. I approach subjects with excitement and enthusiasm, and hope to impart these values onto students and those I mentor. I believe that personal and engaged tutelage is the key to improving students' engagement, and thus achievement, in their topics.
I am a Film & TV MA student with a BA degree in the same, offering support in English Literature. Among other things I am proficient in essay writing, comparative literature and creative writing. I have worked for years with children and young people ranging from 8-18 years old, and I aspire in the future to teach and work in young people's arts engagement. While I have not tutored before, this is a vocation that has been recommended to me highly by my tutors, who would be available as references as to my ability for the position.
Lessons cancelled within 24 hours will be charged at an hourly rate.
I am a part-time MA Film and Television student at the University of Bristol looking for permanent part-time work to supplement my studies and my time in the city. I am a hardworking, enthusiastic, and dedicated individual who enjoys working in a team, but is also comfortable in an independent worker or leadership role. I am applying to teach up to GCSE or BTEC level English Literature, with specification in essay writing, creative writing, and comparative literature.
I intend to tailor all lessons to the specifications of the student, with varying styles and techniques depending on the student's level, learning styles, and wants. For further information on my education and relevant work history, see below:
I am educated to BA degree level in Film & Television, and have 2 A*s at GCSE and an A at A Level in English Literature.
I have worked in many roles with the University of Bristol, including an Insight to Bristol Mentor in July 2018. I have also worked with the University of Bristol in various roles; I worked as a steward and then a team leader for two June open days and one in September; I worked as a campus tour guide for the duration of the summer 2017, and still do during term time; and currently work as a Student Recruitment Ambassador, Student Ambassador, and Faculty of Arts Ambassador.
I was employed consistently as a babysitter with one local family, as well as two local families as and when needed during my gap year in Birmingham. This role taught me patience, time management and organisational skills, and improved my awareness of how to moderate and adapt my behaviour and work to suit my client’s needs.
I was selected by interview to be the University of Bristol’s student newspaper Epigram’s Film & TV section Editor. I lead a team of four editors with three sub-editors to assist the smooth running of the section. This role has developed my attention to detail, and further understanding of the written English word and my interpersonal skills.
