I like to be organised and plan my lessons in advance, these sessions are yours so it's up to you what we study but you will benefit most from telling me what you struggle with so I can prepare a session which will help you improve.
If you are preparing for an exam or are in school, tell me which exam board you are using or what topics you are covering, this will mean I can access an exam specification for you meaning we learn effectively and efficiently. This means we miss out unnecessary information which will not benefit your exam preparation, unless you want a much broader picture in which case we'd take a different lesson structure.
I am a very patient person and will never get frustrated
if you cannot grasp a concept immediately. The whole idea of one to one tuition is that it's your time and you take as much time as you need to understand a topic.
We will go through work methodically and calmly, and if you forewarn me about what you want to study then I can begin our sessions with a check list of learning objectives.
I begin my lessons with new students by preparing for them a set of questions. I then see how the student performs when tasked with these questions so I know what difficulty we need to start the lesson at. If a student chooses, I leave them with 5 questions either with work I plan on covering in the next session or work that we covered in a previous session. This allows for overlap of topics and keeps information fresh rather than left exclusively in lessons.
I always ask students to be honest with me if they don't understand an explanation or of course they feel they do understand something and want to move the lesson on. I cannot stress enough how this is your time and it is completely up to you how we tailor your lesson.
I am 23 years old and I'm in my final year studying Genetics at The University of Glasgow, a top U.K. University in The Times University Rankings. Next year I will be going on to study graduate-entry medicine at the University of St Andrews.
I have experience teaching Biology and Chemistry from GCSE/Nat5 to Alevel/Higher as well as teaching GCSE Maths. I have found a lot of students respond very well to someone only a few years ahead of them academically as they do not feel as intimidated as they might do by their school teachers due to lessons having a more informal style to normal lessons.
I taught myself my A-level maths whilst working, this experience gives me a good knowledge of how students learn best as I tried many different methods - we will find one which suits you.
I charge £5 if you require lessons outside of the West End of Glasgow, otherwise I do not charge for my travel. I review my rates at the start of each academic term, I do not have plans to change them however I do this so that there are no unexpected price rises as it will only occur at these times.

Perfect! Great approach. Just the right balance between encouragement and challenge. My daughter is progressing well and feels much more confident about the subject.
