I am really interested in all genres of music, and will happily teach my pupils anything they particularly want to learn: in my experience of teaching, I have always tried to get to the bottom of my pupils' music taste, asking them to make a list of their favourite songs, and then have spent a lot of time preparing my lessons so that I can come up with the best way to teach them parts to their favourite songs, so often we can play duets together, which everyone seems to find incredibly rewarding. I have a solid base in music theory and can answer many music based questions, not necessarily specific to guitar, and I would feel comfortable in preparing students for grades and/or theory tests if that was what they or their parents wanted. I really just want to work with whatever the pupil wants to learn, as I feel this is the most effective and rewarding way to teach and learn.
I am currently studying music at Leeds Conservatoire, have been playing guitar for nearly ten years, and in those years I have started and managed a couple of bands and done a bit of teaching on the side, which I have found to be incredibly rewarding. I have so far taught beginners and intermediates, all of whom responded really well to teaching, and I have managed to bring them to a stage where they can comfortably improvise, and even compose their own music. Last year I undertook a module in Instrumental Music Tuition at university, which I found to be beneficial in terms of picking up tips and tricks to aid my teaching skills, but have found that really nothing comes close to the experience of teaching another person, one on one.
Might charge up to £10 extra when travelling to and from a student's house, for example £10 for 30km; £5 for 5-15km; up to 5km I won't charge. Cancellation policy applies if cancelling within 12 hours of the lesson.
