I am very methodical in my proofreading work. I will check all spelling and issues of grammar (adhering to the Chicago Manual of Style grammatical advisory section). I will also check that all spelling is consistently either British English or American English, which has proven particularly useful for international students. I then will ensure that all referencing is consistent within the work, and ensure that all necessary points have been referenced. I will finally then have a meeting where I go over all of the suggested changes to ensure you approve of my work. I have worked with people outside of the University of Glasgow, but would prefer to exchange some additional information prior to my proofreading to ensure that you are meeting any department specific requirements.
I am a final year student at the University of Glasgow. I have several years of experience proofreading varying lengths of essays from first year essays to dissertations. I have a firm grasp of prescriptive grammar, and mostly commonly adhere to the Chicago Manual of Style 17th Ed. when working. I am most familiar with the style required by the College of Arts, but am also comfortable working within the College of Social Sciences requirements.
Per my lesson outline, I will usually exchange emails prior to my work to ensure that we are both on the same page regarding specifications for the work I am proofreading. For this, I charge £5 per page of proofreading plus the one hour fee for the recommended consolidation meeting (if required).
Very thorough! I really struggle with grammar and find that I always go over word limits on essays! Emily manages to make the piece sound more fluid yet concise. I always trust her work, she has definitely taken my pieces from a low to a high A
