I am a Financial Accountant having studied Economics at the University of Leicester. Once I graduated I was offered a finance position in the hospitality sector and have recently started in a media company. I possess a wide range of skills which I have learnt both in education and in employment. The age group I would like to tutor is 16-18 year old students who are studying towards their A levels but I also would not mind tutoring GCSE pupils. I have a passion for Economics and would very much enjoy sharing this with younger students who's position I was once in. My degree included a great deal of essay writing and therefore I have strong essay writing skills which I can pass onto students. I am have a strong maths background and can therefore help students with maths. I aim to help students improve by teaching them key exam techniques which I believe are incredibly important to success in exams and are often overlooked. By teaching students in an exam focused way I hope to help them improve their exam grade. However, I will also try to engage students by using many different examples. Before every session I will be sure to be completely familiar with the subject I am tutoring. With background knowledge already I will be sure to be very familiar with the current curriculum and the mark schemes. I will also prepare for lessons by creating specific exercises for the lesson itself and for students to work on independently. I will measure progress mostly by how well students perform in exercises, however also by the general knowledge on the subject. I will also be interested in how students perform in school. I believe positive reinforcement is key to students wanting to learn. I also think it is very important to keep lessons engaging and to make sure that students feel happy and comfortable in the tutoring sessions.
While studying towards my A levels, I provided tutoring to students preparing for their GCSE's and have been actively mentoring younger students throughout school and college. I have tutored a total of 8 students studying towards their GCSE's and have mentored a group of 15 pupils, all of whom I have continued to support after exams. All students who I have tutored have achieved grades B+ in their examinations. I was inspired to study Economics by my Economics teacher who I believe has instilled this passion in me for the subject. I have since enjoyed countless ways of analysing and concluding data and theory as well as relating these theories to what is happening in the world right now. I would like to repeat history and inspire younger students to develop the same passion and enthusiasm as I once started off with.
