Having previously specialised in teaching dyslexic students, I am skilled at adapting my teaching to suit individual needs. I help students to develop their mathematical thinking and problem solving skills, rather than merely memorising facts. I have a particular interest in working to help students overcome any maths anxiety and find enjoyment in the subject. I can also advise on study skills and techniques to get you through the exam.
I am a qualified teacher with a first class honours BSc in maths/creative writing and an OU degree in science. I have taught functional maths as well as GCSE at foundation and higher level and have also supported A level students in their tutorials. I have experience of teaching via Zoom.
Empathetic and flexible mathematics/creative writing graduate having recently completed PGCE course. I have 10 years’ experience in teaching in the FE sector, where I developed the ability to connect with and motivate learners. I am keen to develop a career in teaching mathematics from functional skills through to A level.
Positive communication skills
My achievements include helping learners gain confidence and overcome negative attitudes to education. I have excellent verbal communication skills and a sensitive but assertive approach to dealing with learners’ issues. I enjoy sharing ideas for good practice and am receptive to ideas on professional development. Having returned to education as a mature student, I am keen to motivate others to do the same.
As a lifelong learner, I have developed excellent study skills which I am keen to utilise in keeping up with current educational research. I am particularly interested in discovery maths learning. At my placement I have been able to suggest learning strategies to the students.
