I will play a round with them to assess their level of understanding of openings, the middlegame and endgames, and adjust my course accordingly. I will look at their preferred playing style, we will decide on an opening and how to counter other ones. I will go through puzzles with them, and recommend them websites that helped me previously with strengthening quick analyzing, which is integral in blitz chess. I enjoy playing chess for fun, so I hope to make it an enjoyable experience for all of us.
I have loved playing chess ever since I was introduced to it at the age of 6. I've had success in state level competitions, which allowed me to formerly represent Malaysia as a national chess player. I have given chess lessons to the students in my secondary school, and enjoyed doing so. In group lessons, I will teach useful middle game tactics, and common endgame positions in order to improve their analysis. For individual or 2 people lessons, I would play a game or analyze their previous games with them, and suggest ways to improve their opening, as well as note their common mistakes and provide puzzles to reduce the chance of them reoccurring. I am glad to say that most of the students I tutored improved their rating by a substantial amount.
I am a medical student, who has a passion and penchant for tutoring.
1. Biology A-level
2. Math A-level
3. Basic - Advanced Mandarin
4. Basic - Intermediate French
Biology & Math A-level
I will gauge my student's understanding of the syllabus, and structure my course depending on how much independent learning he would need, as no student can improve without self-learning on top of tutoring. Past year papers would be integral to the learning process, but only after the core principals are fully understood.
French and Mandarin
After doing research about language and the best way to learn it, I have integrated what I have learned into my course structure, as that was how I learnt it as well. It would revolve around comprehensible input and contextual learning. For instance, using pictures to visualise concepts, and teaching them vocabulary based on themes, not by alphabetical order. Once they have reached a certain level (A2-B1), I will challenge them to form an opinion in that language, as well as write essays about different topics.
I will play a round with them to assess their level of understanding of openings, the middlegame and endgames, and adjust my course accordingly. I will look at their preferred playing style, we will decide on an opening and how to counter other ones. I enjoy playing chess for fun, so I hope to make it an enjoyable experience for all of us.

Perfect! I’ve been learning chess with William for 2 weeks now and he is such a patient and kind teacher. He has made what initially seemed like a daunting task feel so much more manageable and enjoyable. I look forward to lessons and find myself practicing so much even outside of lessons. He’s communicative and a lovely person to be taught by. Highly recommended.
