« David was my tutor of a course called World History and Civilization in Lingnan University. He is passionate about the things he taught, all of his lessons are well prepared. Also, he is very capable of making his students interested into the course. Take myself as an example, I was scared by history in the past, but after taking his course, I became more willing to learn it, which make me put more effort on it. David is a helpful tutor. Whenever I had any misunderstanding about the readings, he was willing to explain them in detail. Besides, he is also friendly to all his students. He also talks with his students even it is not in class. His teaching is excellent and gained many trust from his students. Many students gave compliments about his performance. Although he is no longer teaching in the Lingnan University, I hope more students will have the chance to take his lessons. Please consider David as a trustworthy tutor. »

Methodology

Hi. I am a highly experienced and flexible teacher, mostly at post-secondary level, but also with tutoring children and adults in English on a one-to-one basis. I take a friendly, patient, supportive, and creative approach to teaching which my students have found to be extremely effective.

Experience

I have experience teaching at college and university level for over 18 years in Beijing and Hong Kong, and I have also taught one-to-one tutorials in English language and literature. I have taught thousands of students over the years through the media of lecturers and tutorials. My students have ranged from the elite I taught at Peking University in China; struggling students at a community college in Hong Kong, a significant percentage of whom went on to take undergraduate degrees; and 13 years teaching inter-discipliniary history at undergraduate level, where many of my students went on to achieve postgraduate places at leading universities in Hong Kong and overseas, including Ivy League universities in the USA.

Dr.David Lloyd was my tutorial professor for World History while I was an undergraduate that I have known for 5 years now. I can affirm that he is an enthusiast when it comes to his area of teaching, the tutorials were always well-planned, interactive and intensive. I am a business student and although my major is on the other end of the education spectrum, I have developed great interest in History and its importance, grasped the intended learning outcomes for the course and actually learned more than just the course content under the professor’s guidance. From my experience as his former student, I think Dr.David would make an excellent tutor with his ability to provide a compelling and effective lesson for anyone can learn from.

I am a student from Lingnan University and take the course 'World History' which is partly taught by Mr. Smith. It is quite enjoyable I can learn many new and inspiring knowledge in his lessons. With his mature teaching skills, I can fully concentrated, which is hard for me in other lessons. He is passionate about the knowledge and always influenced students. He led us to think logically by asking questions in tutorial classes. His professional can be guaranteed by the appreciation of the students.

Dr. Smith never let the class end without giving us something to ponder over. As a student of his history class, I can assure you that he will never teach any concept without exposing the students to numerous different aspects, helping us to understand multiple stances on any subject, and encouraging us to think outside of the box. Instead of sticking to the standard curriculum, Dr. Smith would encourage us to voice out our own thoughts, and would never discourage us from expressing ourselves no matter what. He would use literature to analyse historical texts, and would always teach us new and interesting lessons beyond the syllabus.
It was a pleasure to be a part of his class. To be able to make a class famous for being so mundane, into a challenging class to look forward to, is surely no easy feat especially at university level.
I would not recommend anyone else for this position as I can guarantee you that he is an exceptional teacher you will not regret hiring.

I believe he could be a trustworthy tutor because David has always been passionate in teaching. I have been his student for 3 years in Lingnan University and keep hanging out with him, his family and other students regularly. I have known him for almost 7 years and he is still always supportive to me in pursuing postgraduate studies in different parts of the world like Scotland and Norway. If you are going to have a lesson with him, you would definitely enjoy the liberty and intellectual conversation with him.

David writes excellent English. He reads and watches good movies a lot. I am certain that he is not only able to teach you English but also the historical and philosophical interpretations beyond them. History and cultural studies are always his strengths.

Concerning course design, I strongly believe that his ones are always well-organized. He is good at making PowerPoints and also detailed study notes so that they would not have a hard to do self-study and group conversations.

I would definitely recommend him to other students. He is not only a great teacher in lessons but also a good teacher in life!

I took a couple of undergraduate History classes taught by David. They were all enjoyable, well-organized, clear to understand, and inspiring. History classes always involve lots of factual information and a decent load of reading materials, but David demonstrates a strong ability to depict the general picture and then filters out unnecessary detail. This helps students grasp a broad yet solid understanding of the topic. He is also good at elaborating complicated historical context and abstract ideas by giving concrete examples, and he structures his explanation in comprehensible ways to cater to student differences. Moreover, David always delights in inspiring students to think beyond what they have been taught. He helps us develop our own thoughts and reasoning, which is a set of utterly important skills for learning regardless of subject and discipline.

As a teacher, David is very approachable, welcoming students to discuss thoughts and ideas, to respond to follow-up questions and students’ requests for clarification. He is passionate in interacting with students about class content and even different Humanities knowledge in general. I would say he is a pleasant and supportive tutor for students to have.

Dr.Smith was my teacher of a common core course World History and Civilisation in my university. He was passionate about the course and highly motivated to teach, absolutely a brilliant teacher. In the classes, he always knows how to guide students to find answers, whilst encouraging critical thinking. He is patient, approachable, and has a strong sense of responsibility. Personally I think he is one of the most cultured and knowledgeable teachers I've ever known. I would highly recommend Dr.Smith to any prospective students and colleagues.

David has taught me for a full semester on a historical subject entitled "China through the eyes of West", and his lessons were impressive because he often inspire us to look at the history through a new angle. His class, therefore, is fun and well-liked among students. You sure can learn a lot from him as a tutor! :)

Dr Smith is a responsible and caring teacher. His teaching is clear and vivid which helps enhance student's interest in learning. He always encourages students to participate in class actively, in order to revises their progress. Thus, Dr Smith cares students a lot. He likes to answer questions raised by students at any time. Therefore, I definitely think he is a trustworthy tutor.
