The first stage is to establish specific goals with a student, for example aiming towards a required grade for University admission. This gives structure to the process and allows progress to be recognised. It is also important so that I can understand more fully the level and speed of tutoring that is appropriate to a student. Once these goals are established the next stage is to break them down into individual lessons, so in each there is a specific focus. Within a lesson the flow will be based on the following; firstly an overview discussion of the topic to develop the student’s grasp of the subject area, followed by a more formal treatment (for example, formal definitions being conscious of those required by specific exam boards) and finally looking at examples, these may include ones that the student has been set outside of tutoring and ones that the student may look at independently that can be discussed in future lessons. It is important that a student feels comfortable to ask questions about the topic at any stage during the lesson so nothing is missed.
I am currently reading Chemistry at Oxford University. I have just completed my undergraduate studies and am about to start my research project for my Masters qualification. The project is based in a solid state research laboratory which has specific interest in batteries and superconductor, if interested I would be very willing to discuss this further!
Perfect! Fergus is so kind and patient. He understand my son’s ability and willing to help and improve my son’s level. Also he is very encouraging to help my son to solve the Maths problem by himself. The way of teaching is interactive, so it won’t boring and make the lesson so lively.
