Hi, I'm Francesca and I am a native qualified and experienced Italian and Spanish tutor.I teach all levels and ages and I use a communicative approach mainly aimed at developing speaking skills but lessons can be tailored to your specific needs.
- Which subject(s) do you teach?
Italian and Spanish
- Tell me about your qualifications.
I have a Degree in Translation and Liaison Interpreting in English/Spanish/Italian and a Master Degree in Linguistics and Language Teaching with distinction, with a dissertation focussing on the teaching of Italian as a foreign language.
I hold a CLTA, an Italian Certificate of Language Teaching to Adults, gained at International House in London.
I have also recently completed the Trinity Certificate TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages), which I feel has enriched and strengthened my teaching methodology and an In-Service Training Course in Teaching and Learning of Spanish Language and Culture for Secondary and Further Education.
- How much do you charge?
I charge £25 per hour per person and £35 for 90 minutes when travelling to zones 1 and 2.
I charge slightly more when travelling outside these areas, as the price varies depending on the exact location, so that could be arranged with the student.
Discounts available for group bookings and conversation classes.
I also do online tutoring, and the price is £20 per hour.
- Where do you teach?
I am based in North West London, but I generally travel all over the city and I usually teach at my students' homes or offices and also in public venues, like cafes and the Royal Festival Hall.
- When are you available?
I am available from 8am to 9pm from Monday to Friday.
- Which ages and levels do you teach?
I teach all levels and ages, from 5 years old children to adults.
- Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
Italian and Spanish: GCSE and A-Level.
Italian: Celi (Certificato di Conoscenza della Lingua Italiana) and CILS (Certificazione di Italiano come Lingua Straniera).
- Describe your arrangements for online tutoring.
I do teach via Skype mainly on a one-to-one basis. I charge £20 per hour per person.
I usually send all the material the day before so that students have the chance to print it and have it ready for the lesson.
- Do you have a personal message for students?
I always encourage my students to make the most of Italian language and culture also outside the weekly lesson.
In a non-Italian speaking context, you do not have many chances to be in touch with Italian language, so it is really important that students are motivated to listen to Italian music, read Italian press, watch Italian Tv programmes and, above all, practice the language as, in most cases, people learning Italian have an Italian family member, an Italian partner or friend, so try to take advantage of it. Don't let them be lazy and force them to speak Italian to you!;)
Francesca is one of our best tutors. They have a high-quality profile, verified qualifications, a quick response time, and great reviews from students!
- What kind of experience do you have?
I have two and a half years' experience in teaching Italian in the UK and a few months in teaching Spanish
- Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?
Not yet, but on the process of getting one.
- Where and with whom did you train?
LEAP, Language Education and Partnership
St George International, London
Università degli Studi di Urbino, Italy
International House, London
Scuola Superiore per Mediatori Linguistici, Ancona, Italy
- Do you belong to any professional organisations?
- Tell me about some of your current students.
I have been teaching one of my students for two years now, and it is quite nice to see how she's progressed, from uttering the first basic sentences to be able to use different tenses in the correct way.
• Master Degree with Distinction in Linguistics and Language Teaching, Università degli Studi di Urbino, Italy
• CLTA (Certificate of Language Teaching to Adults) at International House, London
Francesca Bruge' has recently tutored my daughter for Italian GCSE. She has proved to be an excellent teacher, pleasant, committed and professional. My daughter has mostly appreciated her thorough, yet friendly approach and was delighted with her A* result. Francesca was also extremely good at liaising with my daughter's school and sorting out all the necessary paperwork to enter her and carry out the exam as an external candidate, out of her own time. I would not hesitate to recommend Francesca.
Francesca quickly gauges the level of Italian already achieved and adapts very easily to one's learning style and personality, we often play games and always seem to be laughing which makes her sessions so much fun and always so interesting. Most importantly her lessons always make an impact as I often think of something she has said in a certain way or pictured something she has drawn or reiterated by way of a revision game when I am speaking with my Italian in laws. I cannot recommend her highly enough..
