I'm a professional French horn teacher based in North London. I hope to inspire students, showing the value of enjoying music as well as progressing.

- How much do you charge?
I also have a number of instruments that I loan to students for a small monthly fee. Please contact me regarding availability of my instruments.
- Where do you teach?
I teach at students' homes.
London Zones 1-2.
- When are you available?
I recommend a lesson once per week or 12 lessons per term.
Regular slots are available, but may need to be rescheduled occasionally due to professional rehearsals and performances.
- Which ages and levels do you teach?
All ages, beginners to advanced.
- Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
Happy to help students work towards ABRSM exams, but this is optional. Most of my students do ABRSM exams.
Matthew Horn is a professional freelance French horn player based in London. He has played with orchestras including the Orchestra of the Royal Opera House, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and the Philharmonia Orchestra.
Matthew studied for his Master of Music (Distinction) at the Royal College of Music as a Derek Butler Scholar and a Help Musicians UK Postgraduate Award Holder, with Simon Rayner, Jeff Bryant, Tim Jones and Nigel Black. He completed his Bachelor of Music at the Guildhall School as the James Anthony Horne Award Holder, where he studied with David Pyatt, Jonathan Lipton, Richard Bissill, Roger Montgomery and Alec Frank-Gemmill. He has also studied with Hugh Seenan, Simon de Souza and Laura Tanner.
Matthew has won awards with his chamber ensembles, including the Elias Fawcett Prize for Outstanding Ensemble with his wind quintet, Ensemble Solaire, in the final of the 66th Royal Over-Seas League Annual Music Competition (2018), as well as the Boconnoc Music Award (2017). He has performed Anthony Payne’s Horn Trio, live on BBC Radio 3, at the BBC Proms Extra Event, Composers in Conversation, in July 2016, which led to being invited to the British Horn Society Festival 2016 as a solo artist. Other recent solo performances include Britten’s Canticle III in the Barbican Hall in April 2016, and a wind quintet recital in Wigmore Hall in March 2017. He has recorded in Abbey Road with Pink Floyd on their album: “Wish You Were Here Symphonic”.
Matthew is the horn professor at Ealing Junior Music School on Saturday mornings.
Matthew is currently a member of the Musicians' Union.
