French student offering French lessons in Sheffield to ages up to and including GCSE-level

Methodology

My teaching method mainly involves using past-papers and questions for general learning, and topic-specific study to help with areas that students find particularly difficult. I am very open to using whatever methods my tutee is comfortable with those that they feel help them!

Experience

I am currently studying Mathematics with Study in Europe, with my chosen language as French, at the University of Sheffield. I have been giving private maths lessons since 2014, and have been studying in France as part of a year abroad for the past year so feel very confident in helping with French lessons too!

Hannah's CV

EDUCATION
September 2015 – Present: The University of Sheffield. Studying BSc Mathematics with Study in Europe. Expected to graduate with a 2:1 in 2019
September 2008 – June 2015: Wales High School. Obtained A-level results in Mathematics (Grade A), Further Mathematics (Grade B), and French (Grade A). Also obtained an AS-Level in Philosophy and Ethics (Grade A)
Obtained 12 GCSE’s A*-A in 2013, also at Wales High School, including A* in Mathematics and A* in English

EMPLOYMENT
June 2017 – August 2017: Office Assistant at Tapton Estates, Sheffield. I firstly undertook general administrative tasks such as filing, copying, booking appointments and telephoning clients. I was then given a role on the inspections team, which involved checking houses that had recently been vacated for problems, communicating these reports to the rest of my team and to the relevant landlords, and liaising with contractors to get any problems fixed.
July 2016: Activity Leader at International Quest. I helped to run a summer camp for Italian children aged 11-17, and completed tasks such as planning and running activities, leading groups on excursions, supervising mealtimes, and creating a constantly enthusiastic and energetic environment.
May 2014 – January 2015: Kitchen Assistant at Monks Bridge Farm (Greene King). Did jobs such as washing, cleaning, frying, microwaving, labelling food items, assisting chefs, and other similar tasks.
May 2014 – Present: Private Tutor. I have tutored several students in mathematics, ages ranging from Year 7-11. This involved going through past papers, giving extra teaching of specific areas, and generally boosting their confidence.

SKILLS AND ACHIEVEMENTS
Organisation - As part of my role working for International Quest, I had many opportunities to develop my organisational skills. It was essential that I was always on time and knew where I needed to be and when, to set a good example to others and to be able to effectively lead the groups and their leaders to give them an enjoyable experience.
Communication - I had the chance to progress my communication skills while working as an office assistant. The company manages several hundred houses, and during the period in which I worked there, almost all of these houses required checking. This greatly involved communicating with the other members of the inspection team, contacting landlords to hand over our reports and telephoning contractors to organise repairs, to name a few of the tasks. These had to be undertaken quickly and effectively to meet deadlines of new tenancies, so communication was key to this.
Time Management – This is a skill that I have learned and developed over the years, whilst studying both at school and university, and particularly during my year abroad in France. I am often required to hand in written or practical pieces of homework, as well as attend my lessons, and I also partake in a number of extra-curricular activities such as playing volleyball and visiting a French family. With all of this considered, it is important that I organise my schedule and my time well to be able to complete each task successfully.
Team Working - Whilst working as a kitchen assistant I had the chance to develop my team working skills. Completing one meal required cooperation between several stations in the kitchen – clean dishes from the sink, sauces from the microwaves, salads from the starters section, to name a few. Because of this, every member of the kitchen including myself had to work as team to ensure each element was ready at the same time to produce the highest quality meal, and in the most effective manner possible.
Leadership – During my last year at school I was also a member of the sixth-form committee. This enabled me to develop my leadership skills as I acted as a role model for other students, and as an ambassador for the school within the local community.
Resilience – I have shown and developed my resilience during a year abroad in France. From the first day I was met with challenges that I found tough and potentially daunting, such as opening a French bank account, finding my way round the new city in which I live, and exploring information about my course from my professors, all this being in a second language. The fact that this year was in an area and country virtually unknown to me has made tasks all the more challenging. I have therefore developed a stronger ability to bounce back after any setbacks that I have encountered.

ADDITIONAL SKILLS
Attained a bronze Duke of Edinburgh award whilst at school.
Very confident with the use of every day ICT skills, for example using Microsoft Office and sending e-mails.
Can speak French to a Higher Advanced Level¬ – completed GCSE’s and A-Levels and am studying this at university. I am also continuing this currently as part of my year abroad.
I also hold a full valid UK driving licence.
