Maths and English can be daunting subjects, but that makes the reward of success all the greater. My approach combines gentleness with enthusiasm and challenge, engaging students to develop their confidence and their interest in the subject.
I work with students from year 4 to A level, and always consider the board specification in planning. I set homework between sessions to consolidate the learning from the session.
I am currently having lessons online until social distancing measures are loosened,
Gillian is one of our best tutors. They have a high-quality profile, verified qualifications, a quick response time, and great reviews from students!
I love learning! In my 1-1 work with students as an Academic Coach and Tutor I encourage them to be curious and ask questions to build on what they already know, to gain a depth of understanding. I want my students to benefit from the joy of grappling with a complex idea and then grasping it.
Please drop me a message to find out more and ask any questions about my tutoring style or conditions!
Enthusiastic, kind and honest, I thoroughly enjoy passing on my love of learning to others, inspiring them with the wonder and joy of understanding complex ideas. I am patient and conscientious, with a wide range of experience volunteering and working with young people over the last 16 years. I have a particular interest in working with students with SEND.

Perfect! Gill is a professional and engaging tutor. Gill supported our son to improve his knowledge, and motivated and equipped him with the skills necessary to overcome a longstanding lack of confidence in both Maths & English. I can confidently recommend Gill as a tutor who delivers results.
It has been a pleasure working with Gill and her son. They are a lovely family to work with.
Perfect! Gillian has been successfully tutoring our 12 year old son for the past year and a half. She is a wonderful teacher who is extremely patient, knowledgable and friendly. She makes her lessons fun and varied which is essential in engaging the reluctant learner! My son has progressed in leaps and bounds in both English and Maths since Gillian has tutoured him and we're really grateful to have found her. We fully recommend Gillian and her teaching skills to anyone looking to improve their Maths and English! A+ service and personality to boot.
Lisa and her family are great to work with: friendly, reliable and honest. It’s a pleasure to teach her son
GIll started working with my dyslexic son in the autumn before my son’s GCSEs. My son was really struggling with English both language and literature and I was really concerned that he was going to fail his English language GCSE as in the end of year exams he got a borderline pass/fail grade - scrapped a 4, having also fallen asleep in the exam because he said he was bored! Things were not looking good... However, Gill managed to motivate my son to try and overcome some of his difficulties with English - he not only passed his English Lang GCSE he got a solid grade 7 (an A in old money) and huge thanks go to Gill- she is a star!!!
I met Gill at university where we took classes together. Gill is one of the most intelligent people I know - she has a great analytical mind and is able to tackle intellectual subjects with ease. What's more important though, is that she is also a gifted teacher; Gill is patient and empathetic, and able to come up with creative solutions. I would wholeheartedly recommend her as a tutor - she will do her very best to help you achieve your best.
Gill has tutored my son 1:1 in English & Maths for 12months. After the 1st lesson he was more positive about learning & his confidence has steadily grown.
Gill has tailored lessons for his curriculum syllabuses, individual needs, learning style & interests; making the sessions enjoyable & impacting significantly on school progress. He is now achieving more than predicted in both areas.
Gill is friendly, professional & has a fantastic ability to tune into students’ needs & enthuse them with her passion for learning.
An outstanding tutor that I would fully recommend.
I've known Gillian for over ten years when we met at the Uni of Birmingham. Gillian is one of the smartest, brilliant and loveliest people I know. She is a brilliant tutor and I would absolutely recommend her to anyone!
