My focus is primarily on building the confidence in someone to speak on and engage freely with literature, while deploying the necessary technical skills and knowledge. English can be a difficult subject to grapple with, as there is a plethora of philosophies, debates and conflicts, not to mention the depth and width of the materials. However, I believe the key to success is relating the content to the student's own experiences and perceptions in order to elicit a genuinely engaged response, as well as catering to each and every individual's specific needs. Paired alongside the structured learning of the tools and mechanics of literature, anyone and everyone can achieve excellence in this subject, and glean profound enjoyment and satisfaction at the same time.
I am a fourth year Edinburgh University student studying English Literature, having studied creative writing and produced a number of pieces of prose and poetry. I have recently studied a wide range of topics from Romanticism to Queer Fiction of the 20th century, but am also confident in most areas, from 18th century travel writing up to Beat poetry.
I have experience in both the service industry and in childcare and so my interpersonal and communicative skills have developed well.

I achieved an A* grade at GCSE and A level as well as winning my 6th form academic symposium in which I discussed Ernest Hemingway's Iceberg Theory of Prose. I'm also on my way to achieving an MA from the University of Edinburgh, and so have ample experience of the effective and varied methods of teaching at school and university level.
