As a language student myself learning Spanish, I know how tricky it can be to acheive that goal of fluency!
I've found that the best way to bring out and build on your language skills is through a communicative, "guided discovery" approach. In my lessons, I strive to:
- Create a relaxed, informal space where questions are encouraged and conversation flows
- Elicit vocabulary and concepts from my students as much as possible instead of just giving them the answers
- Maximise the student's talking time
- Encourage peer-to-peer error correction (if teaching groups)
- Drill pronunciation of tricky words.
I'm particularly interested in using authentic, relevant materials in the classroom and in finding creative ways to approach texts.
Hi! My name is Amy.
I'm a sociable, endlessly curious Cambridge graduate and CELTA-qualified English teacher with experience teaching adults and young learners of mixed nationalities and abilities, both 1:1 and in groups.
If you're looking to improve your English, whether for a general or specific purpose (e.g. preparing for an exam, giving a speech, translating letters or editing a thesis), I offer bespoke, reasonably priced lessons to fit around your schedule. I can also offer advice and resources for learning Business English, as I have 4 years experience working as a business consultant in London.
As an anthropology graduate, I'm passionate about people, languages and social engagement. I've travelled widely (especially in Latin America and Asia), love learning about different cultures and sharing knowledge!
