I'm an expert classical guitarist and lute player, and I'm comfortable teaching students from age 5 to 60, with varying abilities - beginner to expert. This has included teaching to the Trinity exam syllabus, although I usually source my own materials. I believe in tailoring my approach to each student and their preferences, and so the technique and theory I teach are auxiliary to this.
I took up the guitar through pure coincidence with a maverick teacher who inspired me to love music – my earliest musical education was littered with school concerts and parties at the West Sussex Guitar Club. I believe in imparting the same education, expert yet easygoing.
I've taught privately for the past three years, while studying in London and Switzerland, and presently as a freelance. My students have varying musical backgrounds, some are experienced musicians transferring their skills to the guitar, others are accomplished players seeking polish and expertise, and others are complete beginners or younger learners. I've prepared some students for grade exams and performances; the majority I simply help to love and appreciate music.

I took up the guitar through coincidence at 13, and studied for four very happy years at the Regis School of Music under Sasha Levtov. At 17 I studied under bursary at the Junior Royal College of Music and the next year was accepted into full time study. I graduated in 2015, and spent 2016 training at the Conservatorio della Svizzera Italia in Lugano.
Since graduating I’ve enjoyed an international career, playing for disparate disciplines such as contemporary art and Elizabethan theatre. I teach privately on lute and guitar, and give school workshops with the Academy of Ancient Music, Baroque Central and the Pumpkin Players.
Sam is an ideal tutor with his friendly and open approach. He takes great care when teaching and is passionate about his subject.
I have known Sam for 10 years first as a talented and hardworking student and in the later years as successful and prolific performer. I have no doubts that Sam, as a teacher, will inspire and pass on to his pupil his inspiration, knowledge of music and love for guitar!
