Friendly guitar graduate and Master's student (jazz bass), experienced as teacher and performer, teaching in and around Brixton and SW London

Methodology

I teach one-to-one lessons in a relaxed but focused learning environment. I encourage awareness of all aspects of musicianship whilst catering to the specific needs and musical tastes of the student. I aim to enhance technical and theoretical progress with understanding and appreciation of the material being studied.

I am a classical guitar graduate and Master's student (jazz bass) at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama.

- Which subject(s) do you teach?

I specialise in bass guitar, classical guitar and jazz improvisation but also teach A-level music, GCSE music, music theory and electric guitar.

- Tell me about your qualifications.

I graduated from Cardiff University's music degree in 2016 with first-class honours, winning the Neville John String Prize for my final guitar recital. Before university I achieved Grade 8 in both electric bass and classical guitar. I am now studying towards a Master's degree in jazz at the Guildhall School.

- How much do you charge?

I charge £32 per hour lesson, £25 for a 45 minute lesson and £17 for 30 minutes. Travel expenses vary depending on distance.

- Where do you teach?

I mainly teach at home but can travel up to 8 miles.

- When are you available?

I currently have spaces available Monday-Thursday. Please enquire for specific times.

- Which ages and levels do you teach?

I teach all ages 6 years and up, beginners to advanced players.

Background

From 2016 to 2017 I was on the teaching staff at Cardiff's Vale School of Music - teaching guitar, piano and music theory - where all my examined students achieved Distinctions. I now teach at Musicland East in Molesey alongside my private students.

- What kind of experience do you have?

As well as my own private tuition, I have been on the teaching staff at Cardiff's Vale School of Music (where all of my examined students achieved distinction) and currently teach at Musicland East in Molesey, Surrey. For the year 2015-16 I held the role of Musical Director with Cardiff University Big Band, and I have substantial on-stage and studio experience as a professional bass player in a variety of genres.

- Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?

Yes
