I am adept at recognising the areas where students lack confidence in their own abilities and struggle with specific aspects of learning. It is therefore important to me to create an environment where the student feels safe, supported, accepted and comfortable.
My teaching style is creative, varied, adaptable, consistent, and very flexible. I use a range of techniques, strategies and methods attuned to the student’s individual needs and which I have found to be effective.
I establish clear objectives for each lesson to address issues and I work to meet those specific objectives during each session. Well-structured lesson plans ensure individual sessions are as enjoyable, fun and interesting as possible.
I am very good at simplifying the complicated and I will set regular tasks and activities to ensure full understanding of what we are studying. This also keeps the subject material relevant and fresh.
My educational background has given me a great appreciation and thorough knowledge of the English language. I am skilled at seeking strategies to teach all students effectively, regardless of their ability.
With my enthusiasm for teaching English and strong focus on learning and progress I hope to inspire, encourage and transmit my enjoyment of learning to my students.
A sense of humour is a key component, and it t is important for me to develop a strong rapport with my students and get to know what they are interested in and what motivates them.

My skilful use of questioning and feedback makes sessions highly interactive and extends learning. Effective formative feedback enables students to gain clarity about what to do and how to improve their work.
My aim is to develop my students into independent learners so they can take control of their own learning with confidence – both in my sessions and beyond.
I have a ‘can do’ attitude and communicate positive expectations to individuals by directly telling them they have the ability to do well. I take great pride in believing in and championing my students so they know they have a ‘cheerleader’ alongside them for the duration of their learning journey.

I have extensive experience teaching English in primary and secondary schools and in colleges of further and higher education. I have also taught English as a Second Language (ESOL).
My teaching experience comprises special educational needs (SEN) where I have worked with young people and adults who need extra support. I have taught students with complex needs and moderate learning disabilities (MLD).
I have personally designed and delivered a six-month program of tutoring, coaching and mentoring.
My most recent role was as a Functional Skills tutor and exam invigilator, where I was teaching, guiding and supporting adult learners who had returned to education to improve their skills. I tutored English at Levels 1-3 towards the City & Guilds NVQ qualification.
My rates are flexible, depending on the needs and requirements of the student.
