I am a keen music teacher and performer. I am a trained flute player, but also enjoy teaching piano, music theory, guitar, ukulele, singing and songwriting. Curious about different musical traditions, I perform orchestral and chamber music, jazz standards, compose original music influenced by folk and jazz, and explore improvisation and musical experimentation.
I am passionate about teaching music and love helping students of all abilities to access music. I have experience teaching all ages, and enjoy helping my students achieve their musical goals and discover their creative potential. I have worked for several music departments at schools, currently Arts and Media School Islington in London. I taught sessions at the International School of Prague and International School of Music and Fine Arts Prague, and prepared students for performances and competitions as part of the Czech music education system.
As a current Master's student at Guidlhall School of Music and Drama, I have had the privilege to perform alongside such legends as Julian Joseph, Joe Stilgoe, Tim Garland, Iain Ballamy or Alison Balsom.
As an orchestral player, I have toured all over Europe with the City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra (BBC Blue Planet II Tour 2019, including concerts for 10K audiences), the Czech National Symphony Orchestra (UK Tour 2018, including venues like Cadogan Hall, Bridgewater Hall or Birmingham Symphony Hall) and the Pilsen Philharmonic (Harry Potter 3 Tour 2019). I performed a whole season of the Phantom of the Opera production in Prague. I have played in numerous opera and ballet productions with the North Bohemian Theatre, including master pieces like Nabucco, Aida, The Bartered Bride, The Barber of Seville, Peer Gynt, or Swan lake. I have played symphonic performances with the Czech Chamber Philharmonic Pardubice, Talich Philharmonia, and contemporary music with the Berg Orchestra. In the UK, I have had the pleasure to play with the Southampton Philharmonic Society, World Harmony Orchestra, Les Fauristes Chamber Choir and Orchestra, or Adoramus Orchestra (Royal Albert Hall 2017).
I am a keen chamber musician and enjoy collaborating with my music friends. I have given recitals in London, Prague, various towns in Czechia, and Viena do Castelo (Portugal) . I have performed and recorded with Prague-based jazz ensemble Concept Art Orchestra. As a singer, I performed with Jazzmazec band and ran a project of original songs. Always looking to develop creatively, I am exploring composing with a loop station. I gave a solo loop performance at the Prague Flute Day 2018, where my students also performed my original composition and a piece we collaboratively composed. I devised and led creative music workshops for The Music FunDation, with which I am currently working on a series of educational videos on Music Theory.
I am currently pursuing postgraduate studies in Jazz Flute at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London. I hold a First Class Honours degree from the Guildhall School, where I studied Classical Flute and Jazz Voice. I previously studied at the Prague Conservatoire, where I earned a Specialist Diploma in Flute. My studies have been kindly supported by the Guildhall School Scholarship Fund, Ministry of Culure of the Czech Republic, Split Infinitive Trust, Czech Music Fund and Foundation Život umělce.
Martina, has been teaching my 3 children (11, 13 & 15) for over a year now. The wonderful thing about how Martina teaches Is she allows them to pick tunes they want to learn. As soon as they can hear themselves playing familiar music their enthusiasm is lit and they want to learn more. Martina, is an knowledgable approachable, friendly & professional teacher, who has strived regardless of the lockdown to ensure we have not missed a lesson during the pandemic, her lessons over zoom have been just a great as her lessons in person. I can not recommend Martina highly enough. ‘
I've been having lessons with Martina for over the last year, not only has she made these lessons fun and exciting. She really knows how to break down the areas I was struggling with and explained them in ways I could understand. From ear training to improvising, she's got you covered!
My flute playing has come a long way since I started and I couldn't recommend anyone better!
I really loved lessons with Martina. She is a great flute player and she can pass her experience on to her students very well. She taught me classical music, jazz, modern music and also improvisation or playing by heart, so the lessons were enjoyable and not boring at all. She was patient and when I needed help with something I didn’t get, she was ready to explain it again and again. Thanks to her I didn’t give up playing the flute but I’m loving it. She is the best teacher I’ve ever had.
Martina is an excellent music teacher. I was her employer in Prague for two years. She taught my clients flute, recorder and guitar. Her students made considerable progress and performed well in end-of-term concerts. My clients appreciated her friendly and enthusiastic approach. She was always professional and committed to her work. I can happily recommend her for any future students wishing to take their music to the next level.
