Gap year student tutoring GCSE maths students in Hammersmith and Fulham, London.

Methodology

I work depending on the exam board syllabus of the student, and I create some questions for the student to do to make sure they have a deep understanding of the topic. I will work through at their pace to make sure the lesson is as useful to them as possible.

Experience

I have just finished school and I studied maths at A-Level. I am a new tutor, and I would like to make this my main job during my gap year. I currently have one student and I find it fairly easy to explain maths in an easy and approachable way.

Carla's CV

Personal Summary:
I am a passionate learner and love nothing more than exploring and expanding my knowledge to my fullest extent; in particular, my fascination for Biology has led me to delve deeper into the subject beyond the syllabus. Over the past few years I have consciously placed myself in situations which have developed my character, specifically my resilience and ability to work in teams, under pressurised conditions. In fact, I find I thrive in these environments and I am eager to develop my skills in these areas even further.
Competencies:
Leadership
Midsummer Opera - In 2016, Midsummer Opera chose the school choir to become a part of their production of Humperdinck's "Hansel and Gretel" to be performed in St John's Waterloo. As a long committed member of the choir, I spent 3 months volunteering in this production - my work included leading the alto section of our choir. During this time, I proved my ability to stick to time scales and work under pressure (learning the German script along with teaching it to other members of the choir).
Teamworking
Duke of Edinburgh Award - Participating gave me the chance to try something completely new. It took me out of my comfort zone which has made me resilient. It has also allowed me to realise the importance of working both independently and as a team. Through working towards my Bronze, Silver and Gold awards over the last three years, I have demonstrated my commitment and dedication to achieving all tasks I have been presented with.
Reliability
My role in the school production of Les Miserables allowed me to demonstrate my ability to manage my time effectively, which resulted in my being a reliable member of the cast. Other cast members and the Head of Drama were able to rely on me to support other cast members during show time.
Resilience
I faced a number of personal and family issues a month before my GCSE's, however I managed to persevere and keep up my work ethic in order to achieve good results in the end.
Jul 2018 - Jul 2018: Work experience

Working at a car company, multiple roles. I spent a week at Munich Motor Works in Dubai. Munich Motor Works is a large, independent German Car Sales and Service Centre with around 65 staff. I was helping the Service Advisors to receive and inspect vehicles and talking to customers to identify their needs. I assisted the team to prepare and email work estimates and faxed orders to suppliers as well as general help and administration work.

Education
Sep 2016 - Jun 2018: GCSE's - St Benedict's School Two 8's, four 7's, four 6’s.
Other interests: School volunteer, Grade 8 piano, Grade 6 singing, Ice Skater. Volunteering - St Benedict’s Junior School - I volunteered in the St Benedict’s Junior "After School Club" from 2017-2018. During this time my jobs varied from leading group activities for the children, supervising outdoor games/sports, preparing snacks, cleaning up mess and monitoring behaviour. This experience allowed me to further develop my social skills and confidence, as I was determined to keep the children content and entertained.
Music - Music is my main hobby. I have been a committed piano player for 8 years and I have completed grades 1-8 with nearly all of the results being distinction. By December 2018 my goal is to begin preparing for my composing diploma so I can begin to perform concert pieces. As well as piano, I am on grade 6 singing. I am a dedicated member of multiple choirs at my school. Sports - I began ice skating in 2012. This became my favourite sport. After moving back to the UK in 2015 I continued with ice skating. I have completed levels 1-5 and Freestyles 1-4. I have also taken up swimming. I enjoy using my free time to do sports and keep-fit activities.
