I believe in an approachable and engaging way to learn, as this is key to maintaining a student's interest and passion for the subject. I aim to make my lessons interesting and tailor them to the learner's needs; basing the lesson on their own prior knowledge, their ability and overall goal. I am patient and understand the difficulty of grasping new concepts and am happy to take things at a slower pace if a student requires it.
I am bilingual in English and Spanish, having parents from England and Colombia. During my childhood I have always been exposed to two different languages. From the age of 9 I lived in the south of Spain, in the city of Granada. During this time, I attended a local school and my fluency and knowledge of the Spanish language developed into native-speaking level. During the summer months I would take part in my school's Summer Camp and teach English and arrange games and lessons for the younger children. When I returned to England I was able to take my GCSE and A-level Spanish examinations a year early and achieve an A* grade in both.
I have recently been employed by the University of Birmingham as a Spanish/English translator and have been working on assignments during my spare time alongside my dental course.
I have been tutoring for over a year now and mainly at GCSE level, I am able to provide support and tutor A-level students for Spanish as well.
I am a graduate student, having completed my BSc in Biomedical Sciences at Royal Holloway University of London. I am now undertaking a second degree in Dental Hygiene and Therapy at University of Birmingham. I have worked as a personal tutor for over a year at GCSE level and am able to tutor for A-level students as well. I believe practicing and speaking the language is one of the most effective methods of learning and I encourage students to engage with the language as early as possible in my lessons. I believe I have the knowledge and skills to help students achieve their desired grades or improve their Spanish skills in general.
