My teaching method is using Socratic and creative techniques to engage pupils in discussion and help them understand methods in a useful and enjoyable manner. I like to help guide students rather than just giving answers. This allows them to build critical analysis skills that will benefit them in all subjects. Also, I want to help students understand that learning can be exciting and fun!

Dissertation Title: “Estimating fracture connectivity and permeability of collapsed roof strata using FracPaQ.”
Mining excavations cause collapse of overlaying strata and the formation of a collapse/damage zone of interconnected fractures. This zone is often treated as part of the ‘mined volume’ when considering estimates of ‘heat-in-place’ or storage potential, and given a nominal porosity based on an estimate of the compaction of the material (usually n=20%). However, accurate characterisation of the volume, connectivity, and permeability of this zone is key to de-risking minewater geothermal schemes. FracPaQ is a software that is able to compute connectivity and permeability from 2D images and could be used to improve our understanding of the excavated damage zone of elevated permeability using images from exposed mineworkings.
