Geography and Natural Hazards student available to teach geography up to first year university level. Can also tutor GSCE history and science students.

Methodology

My teaching method relies heavily on visual representation of topics. For most people simply reading from a textbook is not an efficient way of learning; so wherever possible I will use diagrams or examples to not only make the subject clearer but also to make the lessons fun and more memorable.

For example: If learning about different types of faults I would make models of the faults using card to illustate my point while givng the pupil something tangable to learn with.

Background

I am a Second year Bsc Geography and Natural Hazards student at Coventry University and an aspiring secondary school teacher. As well as geography I have a passion for History and the basic sciences all of which I am comfortable tutoring at GSCE level. I am friendly and enthusiastic and will work as hard as possible to ensure there is never a dull lesson! :)

Personal Profile_______________________________________________________________________
I am an organised and driven student with a passion for learning and education. I am an aspiring Geography teacher and have just entered my second year of university. I am friendly and outgoing and able to think outside the box. During sixth form I was a peer mentor and helped a student with adjusting to life at a new school as well as making sure that they coped with their studies. During this time I was also a “buddy reader”, this entailed volunteering once a week at my old primary school to help children with a lower reading age reach the national standard.

Education____________________________________________________________________________

2018-2022 BSc Geography and Natural Hazards (predicted 2:1)

2016-2018 A-levels, (BBD) Highfields school, Matlock, Derbyshire.

2011-2016 9x (A-B) GCSE’s including- Two English GCSE’s (language and literature)- AA, Maths- A, Biology- A, Chemistry- B, Physics-B and History- A.

Work Experience_______________________________________________________________________

2017- present: Waitress at The Hardwick Inn.

This job has helped develop my communication skills as I serve customers of all ages and addressed their individual concerns and needs.

It has also taught me how to think outside the box to create memorable experiences. For example simple things such as giving small children a spare pen and few scraps of paper can improve their experience so much.

July 2018- Summer Internship with Geotenerife

During July I spent a month working in La Palma monitoring the volcano. This improved my communication skills with people who speak only in foreign languages, as most of the people I interacted with spoke only broken English and I could only speak a few words of Spanish and so to effectively communicate both parties had to be patient and concise.

2015-2017- Volunteering at the National Stone Centre
I’ve always had a passion for earth sciences and so after completing work experience at the National Stone Centre in year 10 I continued to volunteer there on an ad-hoc basis. Subsequently, I am very familiar with different kind of rocks and the processes that form them.
