I am very well qualified in Chemistry, having gained a PhD (Organic Chemistry), MSc and BSc (1st class) as well as a PGCE (Secondary Science teaching). I currently teach science (Chemistry, Biology, Physics) at KS3 and Chemistry and Physics at KS4, as well as Chemistry at KS5. My lessons are geared towards students of all abilities and as such contain engaging information and challenging and interesting problems for students. I like to make sure each student is engaged in their subject and this is often through practical work and demonstrations. I believe that each student has within them the ability to understand the concepts of science and these are more easily grasped when students are not only having fun learning but see the relevance and purpose of their learning.
I have been teaching Science at KS3/KS4 in schools in the South/West Yorkshire regions for the past two years and also in Apr-July 2013 and Oct 2010-Jan 2011. I have also taught Chemistry/Biochemistry at Sheffield International College (part-time) over two years (Jan 2008-Sept 2009) and Chemistry/Biology at York College (Dec 2016-Mar 2017). I have a wide experience in Chemistry, having previously worked in academia and industry. I have previously taught 1:1 at a UCAN Special Needs Unit in Pontefract (English/Maths) and also teach SEN students in my lessons at schools. Under my guidance I have been able to watch students progress very well, for instance, whilst teaching at Sheffield International college (KS5 level) at least 80% of students achieved the grades necessary for entry onto the University of Sheffield engineering courses, with other students also obtaining entry onto courses at other UK universities. At KS3, KS4 I have enjoyed seeing students progress well under my guidance and achieve their desired grades.
I have a great enthusiasm for and knowledge for my main subject, Chemistry and Science in general, and even if students don't select sciences for their A levels or degree courses, it is important that they learn and see the relevance of their understanding of science in the world around them and the analytical skills and thinking they can learn and apply in other subject areas.

I am Steven and the courses I teach are GCSE Chemistry, Physics, Biology and A level Chemistry. Whilst Chemistry is my main subject specialism I also have an added specialism of Organic Chemistry. My teaching methods involve learning/assessing a student's current subject knowledge and adapting my lessons to suit their current skills and knowledge. I am always keen to make sure each student can cope with the content of what they are learning and form the necessary foundations in science for further learning. I always aim to challenge students in class by building upon their current knowledge and letting them see and understand how they can use that knowledge independently. I always aim to inspire confidence and enthusiasm for science within my lessons.
