I believe it is important to lay the foundations of good piano technique from the first lesson I have with a pupil. My primary focus for lessons is to cultivate good posture at the piano, and to develop firm fingers supported by a flexible hand. This equips my pupils to tackle a wide variety repertoire. I aim to ignite passion in my students, and relish the challenge of making every lesson engaging - finding the best teaching techniques for each individual pupil. I also believe in making every lesson "count," and enjoy working with pupils to set goals, and make the most out of their individual practise time.
I have experience teaching through ABRSM, as well as SQA qualifications. I normally travel to my pupils.
I graduated with a Bachelor of Music (Honours) degree of the First Class from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. I regularly perform as a solo recitalist, chamber musician, and concerto soloist.
From an early age I have felt drawn to music, and my passion for the piano was developed and refined through learning with dedicated teachers, who inspired me to work hard in order to reach my potential. This laid a firm foundation, not only in developing my skills as a pianist, but also when seeking to further my overall musical education. I am incredibly thankful for the people in my life who have immersed me in music and have so carefully guided me throughout my development as a pianist and musician, and I am grateful to now have a career in performing. I would seek to replicate the wonderful experiences I have benefited from in my own teaching, in order to be a positive influence on my pupils and to inspire them to do well.
Length of lesson can be negotiated. For younger pupils, for instance, a shorter lesson is more appropriate.
