I want to help students build their confidence and skills without jeopardising their mental health. Learning shouldn't be something stressful or anxiety-inducing, and I aim to help improve English skills and exam skills whilst building confidence in their own abilities. I encourage individual development of skills. This would involve the student attempting to work out the answers and broadening their exam skills, with me guiding and prompting instead of lecturing them unless I believe that the student is struggling or works better in a lecture format. I believe that learning should be enjoyable and a chance to discover new skills, and so aim to reduce as much stress as possible during this process.
The lessons will be tailored to each student's needs and preferred teaching style and can include exam questions, worksheets, analysis of texts, vocabulary building, creative and persuasive writing practice, research and insights into book subtopics and contexts, book revision and trialing different revision techniques using mini-tests to ensure that the student knows which method suits them best before their exams.
I am happy to do face to face sessions the student is based in Alton or the surrounding area, as I can travel to a convenient location for the first few lessons before attending the student's home if required. However, I am also happy to do sessions over webcam using a shared document that can be edited from both sides.
I have had a lot of experience tutoring others in my GCSE classes with their English (Literature and Language), and have had a job in a Maths and English tutoring company. I am patient, encouraging and supportive - and want to help students improve without feeling stressed or pressured. I encourage individual development of skills: to build confidence and independence.
