Joy's CV

Experience
The priory Hospital February 2017-Present
I currently work as a mental healthcare assistant in a Child and Adolescent Mental Health Ward at The Priory, a specialist mental health Hospital. My role involves assisting and supporting qualified healthcare practitioners to facilitate the wellbeing, dignity and treatment of young people. This role has allowed me to develop my listening and observation skills, important for monitoring the mental, emotional and physical wellbeing of patients. I frequently interact with patients who can be challenging and demonstrate patience and resilience that is required to support them.
Volunteer (St. Mary’s Hospital) November 2015- June 2016
Volunteer team-leader in a student led volunteer project whilst studying for my Master’s Degree, which involved visiting geriatric patients at St. Mary’s Hospital. The role required demonstration of my leadership skills through the organization of students within my volunteer group. I demonstrated my compassion, listening and communication skills through interacting with patients on the ward.
Research Student Oct 2015- Oct 2016
Completed three research projects in molecular, clinical and cognitive neuroscience and worked within three different multidisciplinary teams, contributing to lab meetings, and in some cases collaborating with other researchers. The research work has given me experience in project management, participant recruitment and testing. In addition, my research work from one of these projects has been submitted with other work from within this lab for publication.
Selfless July- September 2015
Summer internship at a startup social enterprise, within the healthcare sector. This involved organizing a Global Health Conference aimed at medical students, which has given me experience in recruiting participants, project management, marketing and communications.
Wii Select Events and Hospitality July- August 2014
Hospitality work throughout the summer, which involved working at Hampton Court Flower show and events at Goodwood racecourse, Ascot and Oval. These events involved waitressing and till-based roles. I learnt the importance of process efficiency and customer relations.
Shooting Star Hospice August-September 2013
Volunteer at Shooting Star Hospice as a pool watcher. Having already completed a lifeguarding qualification, I was able to receive further specialty training for severely disabled children. The role required me to be proactive and very organized in preparing the pool and monitoring swim sessions with a physiotherapist.
Odeon Kingston July-September 2012
Three months experience working as a team member at Odeon during the period between school and university. During this time I improved my competency in interacting with customers, dealing with complaints, tickets and cash handling.
Starbucks September 2011-February 2012
Five months experience working as a barista during my gap year. The often demanding work schedule and busy cafe meant I learnt to be pro-active and work efficiently.
Shine Trust at Lady Eleanor Holles School/ Tutor to GCSE students at HCC College November 2009- March 2010
Mentor to a group of primary school children in lessons organized at my school on Saturday mornings. During this period I learnt to effectively connect with a different age group and develop my leadership skills through supervising large groups of children. My tutor role involved coaching a group of younger students to be ambitious for and achieve higher grades in science.
