A one-one or small group is the aims and objective, so that each student will benefit from a finer detail constructive work. This process and approach enables the student to be more focused in the way they would like to be taught.
I am a former student of the Nottingham Trent University, gaining an HND in Fashion and Technology (1997) and subsequently an MA in Performance Sportswar Design at the University of Derby (2009).
I have a great interest in manual pattern cutting and garment construction and have supported students with practical elements of garment construction leading up to their taking part in fashion shows and competitions. During 2016/2017 I travelled to China, supporting Chinese students in garment construction.
An enthusiastic and experienced creative with the flair and ability to craft fabrics to a high standard. This is supported by various instances of positive feedback from several private customers who have had their custom alteration orders delivered to their satisfaction.
ATTRIBUTES & QUALITIES
Attention to quality – Through providing value and building relationships at Derby University I was offered an amazing opportunity to work at Shanghai Institute of Visual Arts (SIVA).
Teaching & coaching – I have 15 years of combined experience within teaching roles at Derby University and SIVA.
Embroidery – I am a trained and experienced embroiderer and can provide samples of high quality work I have produced.
Pattern cutting – With a background in manual pattern cutting, I am confident in how to use these skills and transfer them into quality products.
Alterations – For over 9 years I have supplied high standard alterations for customers who give great feedback and bring repeat business. My skills cover male and female fashion wear as well as furniture.
Lecturer – Gottelier Creative Fashion and Design, SIVA – (March 2016 – June 2017)
My main duties include creating lesson plans and supporting students through these to aid their learning in technical and practical tasks. I was also responsible for 1-to-1 support, especially supporting end of year fashion shows. My duties also extended to general maintenance of the workshop and machinery within it.
Seamstress – Goode Comfort – (2007 – 2016)
To hone my skills and develop technically I launched my own business offering high quality alterations, on various garments including menswear, ladies wear and soft furnishings. This helped to improve my abilities and I have built a happy customer base and can provide samples of completed work.
Lecturer – Derby University – (2002 – 2016)
My main duties included supporting lesson plans to enhance student development as well as helping to build confidence and technical skill. Through this role I have worked on various fashions shows undertaking different roles within the planning and execution of the shows.
Seamstress – La Belle Boutique – (2013 – 2014)
As part of my role here I helped customers to design their ideal bridal and bridesmaid dresses. This gave me a chance to focus my creative abilities into something that really took ideas out of the customer’s head and make it a reality. I also worked on altering dresses to make them an ideal fit.
Teacher – City College Nottingham – (2004 – 2005)
This was a teaching in the community role in which my main duties included showing students the skills for manual and pattern cutting as well as pattern garment construction. This was an opportunity for me to pass my skills onto other people. I also taught students how to do manual block pattern cutting.
