Guitar and Bass Lessons at your London home with 20 year professional musician MFA Graduate

Methodology

The most important thing I try to start with is finding out what the student wants to learn and what they find exciting about music. That will determine how flexible I am in my approach. If someone wants to learn theory and reading music we can definitely do that, but maybe they are more interested in being able to play a few songs by their favourite band, or maybe write their own music, or maybe just learn how to improvise a blues solo. I'm definitely a firm believer in patience and hard work when it comes to playing an intrument, but it's so important that there is always a feeling of enjoying the process of learning and getting some instant gratification as well. I've found that my personal goals and tastes as a musician have changed over the years and I think that's the case with most people, I want to help the student find what they want to do with the instrument and keep that initial spark going as they grow as musicians.

Background

I earned an MFA degree at the California Institute for the Arts and I have worked as a guitarist/bassist and music director for a number of bands and theatre companies and toured internationally. I have worked on the West End and Shakespeare's Globe, played tons of weddings, toured with bands in buses, and been a music teacher for many students.

Pat is a patient and methodical tutor, encouraging and motivating. My guitar lessons with Pat and the practice lessons he gave me really helped me learn a foundation of guitar that I still have, years later. I recommend to anyone wishing to take music lessons, especially if they are beginners.

Mike

If you want the opportunity to learn from the best, Pat is your man. He is a true master and an incredible teacher. You will not be disappointed.

Pat’s approach is an exploration of creativity and theory with an emphasis on enjoyment of creating new music. I have to believe that for every successful musician, there must be at least one influence who taught them to really love playing from early on. Study music with Pat Moran, and rediscover why you started playing.
