Are you looking for guitar lessons for yourself or your child? My guitar learning programmes offer so much more than just normal lessons and aim to help you achieve the results you want, fast, while having lots of fun in the process.
- Which subject(s) do you teach?
I specialise in teaching rock/pop guitar styles. I do not teach classical guitar, but do teach rock/pop guitar to students who play acoustic or classical guitars.
- Tell me about your qualifications.
BA (hons) Popular Music Studies from the University of Leeds, BTEC National Diploma in Performing Arts from the BRIT School in Croydon, various teaching courses from local authorities and specialist organisations
- How much do you charge?
I offer a free introductory lesson to all prospective students, with no obligation to continue. All lesson packages include added extras that set me apart from the average guitar teacher, which will be of huge benefit to your playing. Because of this, I do not charge an "hourly rate" as such. Instead, we will talk through your playing goals at your introductory lesson and come up with a unique learning strategy from there. For more info on this, please visit my website.
- Where do you teach?
I teach in a fully-equipped studio in Croydon, easily accessible by bus, car and rail if you live in Croydon, Purley, Coulsdon, Wallington, Waddon, Carshalton, Shirley, Addiscombe and Caterham.
- When are you available?
I teach full-time Monday to Saturday and have a flexible policy regarding lesson times. My schedule changes all the time so it it best to contact me to see whether I have space available for you or your child. Please bear in mind that some flexibility will help us to find a mutually convenient slot.
- Which ages and levels do you teach?
I teach all ages and am used to working with very young babies and children through to older children and teenagers. I also have plenty of adult students. I teach beginners and intermediates.
- Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
- Do you have a personal message for students?
I really try to place an emphasis on learning for fun in my lessons. While I will teach formally if required, it's my aim to get you playing the styles of music you enjoy as soon as possible. I believe that a good foundation in scales, exercises and music theory is essential to becoming an all-round musician but if you want to learn to play some of your favourite songs and really enjoy what you are learning, I will make that the priority.
- What kind of experience do you have?
I have over 7 years teaching experience and have worked for Wandsworth Music Service, SCOLA in Sutton, Richmond Childminding Service and Sound Connections teaching and running music workshops for children of all ages. I've been playing guitar and bass for well over 20 years in bands too numerous to mention. You can read more about my background and credentials in my downloads section.
- Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?
Yes, one from Wandsworth Schools Music, one from Croydon Music Service and one from Sutton LEA.
- Do you belong to any professional organisations?
Music Leader, Musicians Union
- Tell me about some of your current students.
Currently I have students who are studying for Rockschool grades, others who are learning the basics of music theory and reading music and some who are simply learning to play songs they enjoy using simple chords and strumming techniques. I put on regular performances in Croydon for my students, which are always very well received , and run extra events on related topics such as songwriting and transcribing as well as workshops and jam classes.

Jamal and Rafick are really enjoying their lessons. Jamal has improved his ukulele playing significantly and has become confident in his skills and abilities to read music. Rafick has learnt an enormous amount through Vicki's patient approach and she has encouraged him at every opportunity. As parents, we would recommend Vicki to any child wishing to learn or expand on his or her music experience.
Thank you for inspiring Eloise with her guitar – she plays it nearly every night and spends hours looking up guitar chords/music online and playing it
I was a complete beginner on guitar and I wanted the challenge of learning a new, and completely different instrument. I am so pleased I decided to take lessons with Vicki. I had barely strummed a guitar before within a few weeks I could strum along to a song or two. 8 months on I am astonished at just how well I have progressed. I would highly recommend lessons with Vicki – her passion for music and the guitar is obvious and infectious – I can't wait to pick up my guitar and play! Thank you Vicki
