Guitar Teacher Hackney, North London, Dalston

About the lesson

I am a friendly and experienced teacher and professional bass player and guitarist with tons of experience. I pride myself on being a patient, encouraging and intuitive teacher.

- Which subject(s) do you teach?

I teach guitar and bass guitar from beginner to professional level. I also cover various aspects of music theory as part of the course as it tends to aid the learning process and achieve faster results. I strive to make each lesson as fun and rewarding as possible.

- Tell me about your qualifications.

I initially piano and then guitar to Grade 6 AMEB during school. In 2003 I began studying a Bachelor of Music Performance at the VCA (Melbourne University), majoring in guitar improvisation and focusing on guitar styles, history and theory. During my time at VCA I also studied bass improvisation and played bass in various college ensembles. In 2007 I completed my BMus (Hons) and in 2008 I completed a Postgraduate Diploma of Psychology at Monash University.

- How much do you charge?

Currently I am offering a free consultation/introductory lesson. All other lessons are charged at £20 per one hour lesson for either bass or guitar. This is includes reasonable travel expenses. Please contact me for further clarification.

- Where do you teach?

I am based in Dalston (Hackney), but I am willing to travel to most areas within the Greater London area.

- When are you available?

I am available throughout the year, including school holidays. I am flexible throughout the working week and weekends, and am happy to commit to regular lesson times, or flexible hours. Please don't hesitate to contact me to discuss this further.

- Which ages and levels do you teach?

I have experience teaching all ages and abilities.I have developed a flexible teaching style that is sympathetic to each students particular learning style and personal goals.

- Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?

ABRSM, GCSE or A-Level exams from grade 1 to 8. However, the grading system is not for everyone and I have found many students achieve faster results by setting their own agenda.

- Describe your arrangements for online tutoring.

Online tutoring is available in some instances via Skype. I am currently teaching one student via Skype with great results. However, the results will depend on various factors including your internet connection, microphone, etc. Electronic payment can be arranged.

About Paul

- What kind of experience do you have?

My father, Stephen Housden, is well known in Australia and USA as the lead guitarist of the Little River Band, who achieved huge chart success in the 70's and 80's. From a young age I absorbed everything I could from my father's guitar playing and attended many of his seminars. I studied piano and guitar from age six and developed both to high level and topping my state (Victoria) in Music Group Performance in my final year of school in Australia. For the past 12 years I have been in high demand playing sessions for many top ten Australian acts, such as Belinda Emmet, Abbey Dobson (Leonardo's Bride) & The Whitlams. I have also toured extensively and played numerous festivals with my own band Foxx on Fire in Australia, Ireland and the UK.

- Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?

Yes.

- Where and with whom did you train?

Piano: Tim Dargaville
Bass and guitar: Stephen Housden, Rob Lyttle, Chris Bekker.
